Ok, it seems that nothing is going to change your opinion, which is all well and good as thats what makes the game so popular. but just to show i'm trying to base this on fact i thought i'd see if i could prove you right. Find this extra passion for the cup you suggest there is. So i just looked at EVERY tie played in cup this weekend, And then checked the attendance figures against their league averages. To see if the cup was as important as you suggest.

There were 30 ties that were played. Average attendances for them in the league 22916. Average in the cup 18192. Thats 20% less. That to me doesnt suggest that its thriving. Of the 30 ties. Derby, Blackburn, Grimsby, Kidderminster, Macclesfield, rochdale and southend all had increased figures. Now i'm sure you'll find a counter of sorts to that. But to me, if i was purely analysing statistics. I wouldn't find it all that compelling if i were trying to prove your point.

Passion , desire , giant killing , fame , headlines , cup run - there are a multitude amount of reasons that can't be found in a stat that show the FA Cup is still alive.

There is no stat alive that shows how a fan feels when the winning goal goes in that sends their team through to the next round

Lovely sentiment that. But I'd suggest what's more telling is the reaction when teams go out. Nowhere near as disheartened as they used to be.
I've never seen a fan cry at losing the FA cup. I've seen plenty do it when relegated though.....
i also remember staying behind when we lost the final in 03 whilst the winning fans left before the cup was lifted.
Anyways, we clearly have differing opinions on this. So I'm gonna stop going round in circles now. As I said before. I'll be surprised to see many fans bemoaning their poor FA cup runs if they succeed in their leagues.

The one thing you keep comparing it to though is the league - myself nor anyone else has ever said it's more important than the league

Winning the league is more important but winning the FA Cup is still special so is small clubs knocking out big clubs etc - the magic is still there

The reason I compare it to the league is you are saying it's as important as it ever was.
In it's heyday. Clubs would put wining league or cup as equal. For all your talk of wanting to win it. I doubt very much that most fans of the top 4/5 would prefer it over finishing 4th. Or smaller prem teams staying up, or championship teams winning promotion. Hence me saying it's not as important as it once was. Now I'm sure fans of lower league teams have it as a priority, but I'd still much rather my team (if I supported say Grimsby) Man. UTD it was their first team and not a bunch of reserves.

But you refuse to accept that. I'm not doubting your prefenrece of Liverpool winning it over fourth. But I don't know a fan of any of the clubs that hasn't told me they'd much rather be in champs league than win FA cup. I've also not said that the FA cup is unimportant. It's still the best national cup going. Just not as good as it once was. I'd suggest putting the 4th champs league spot up for grabs, then all teams would take it seriously. but the sponsors of champions league would never allow it.

Do the teams that put out the reserves in the FA cup reduce the admission fees accordingly...I doubt it!

Teams put out players registered in the first team squad - teams don't put out a team of reserves as such

But some teams also do reduce ticket prices for Cup Games

Proof of the dwindling crowds are yesterdays Man Utd v Swansea crowd.

When I switched it on with a minute to go there looked to be no more than 35k in the ground.

73000 was the attendance yesterday for the Man UTD game

We were also a sell out as well

Indeed you were, as were arsenal. I wasn't implying that UTD were bigger than you. Although they are. But Los that's a different subject.

Had ad a wee google. Found some interesting stuff on Liverpool fanzones. It seems your opinion isn't too rare after all. About a third of your fans would target the FA cup over top four. So whilst not compelling. It's interesting none the less.

Most disheartening survey I found had 10% of fans hoping to go out straight away!!

Never said you were implying anything

Just highlighting that the top clubs still sold out for a 3rd round FA Cup tie

And I know it's not rare to want silverware - my club was built of winning trophies - that's why a lot were disgusted when Kenny was sacked despite winning the League Cup.

top top clubs will sell out for any game, just look at your ore seasons abroad for example. But it's a shame that there's probably only 2 clubs in England that can boast that!
