Can anyone recommend the best way to travel to F1 Silverstone GP for one day? Anyone has had any recent experience? Driving/transfer from Milton Keynes? Parking on site? Train?

You can drive direct

Nearest train station is about 15 mins away in a taxi ( Wolverton ) - there are trains from London and Brum to there

You can also get a bus from MK bus station by the M1 or train station to the track ( about 30 mins ) - drop off is about 5 mins walk from the entrance

How bad is the traffic queue to get it? Does it take 3 hours to get in or do they manage the traffic reasonably?

Haven't heard any horror stories about getting in but getting out might be a bigger problem. My stepbrother is taking my stepmum to watch the race and they're concerned about getting out afterwards in the car.

If you are only going for one day look at the park and ride. But beware of the potential queues when leaving the circuit.

There is parking at the circuit, but I’d be surprised if there was any still available. And you still have to queue leaving.

It will be busy leaving, but it’s better now than it used to be.

Leaving any major event is slow, I find it better to accept this will be the case and go with the flow. You see loads of people trying to take short cuts and push in getting stressed. It’s just not worth it.

It will be like any other event , not too bad getting in but will be some queuing to get out

You are better getting the bus

There is a park and ride for one of the car parks

Yes, getting out is often a bigger pain.

Any preference for the park and ride between Sixfields and Turweston?

I have golfed at Whittlebury Park. You can see some of the circuit stands and hear the cars. Think they have there own gate to the circuit and campsite along with the hotel.

Thank you for all replies. Last question - any preference between a transfer from Milton Keynes train station or from Sixfields (assuming similar travel time to both)?

Just to report. Ended up going via Sixfields - best decision ever. Easy to get to for us, no queue to park. Transfer to Silverstone took 55m, which wasn’t too bad considering. Arrived to gate 1 by Luffiled. Took about 15min to get in at 9.45am.

Ended up going to Vale as they allowed access to the podium only from that area. Was busy but still enough spots to squeeze in close to the barriers.

On the way back, Sixfields buses had the shortest queue, others had a million more people queuing. 🙃 The transfer back took 30min.

Thank you for all recommendations above!

I heard A34 was closed did it cause any issues?
Back in the 2000s Silverstone was a nightmare, as a team we always struggled to get in and out.
When they made the bypass life got a lot better.

I can actually say that I've raced at Silverstone. Yeah....technically the truth. Back in my running days (High Wycombe, early 80's) we went up and I think I ran two races on the same day on the track. Somewhat slower than the race cars.

They do Pirelli hot laps before the race and the drivers were really pushing it judging by the amount of screeching noise and tyre smoke 😂

Apparently, Tommy Fleetwood had a ride in one of those.
