Ever played a round and been star struck? - Woburn with Ex footballers

I've had a think of this since posting earlier - I can't honestly think of a celebrity I'd be star struck by - If I meet a footballer away from work I don't talk to them about their job unless they bring it up - they get enough of that with numpties in pubs etc., and I'd probably do the same with any other celebrity.

Nice course, probably nice people what's not to like.

I think this sums it up.

In 1987 I won a competition on Radio 2 and played in the Pro-Am before the Dunhill Masters with Bernhard Langer and Nigel Mansell. It poured with rain all through the round, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Bernhard and Nigel were both very pleasant to talk to, as was Pete Coleman, Langer's caddie at the time.

Everyone I have ever met has been a pleasant person apart from Monty - duller than on the telly

You're all very sad people.

I think this sums it up.

That's a real shame and I feel quite sorry for you.

I'm 33 years old and could get to play golf with people that I idolised as a child and have gone on to respect in later life.... I potentially could get to spend 4-5 hours in their company and chew the fat and soak up their stories.

I for one cannot wait.

Spot on mate - hope the day is a cracker for you

The only footballers I've come across on a golf course where Paul Ince and his son Thomas Ince... We where behind them on the PGA and the only thing that was getting struck that day was them by our balls if they held us up

I got star struck just been this close to Tiger at the Open:o

I marshalled for tiger in 1996 in a practice round at the Scottish Open - walked whole course with him - was ordinary guy but very focused - spoke to us all the way round - shot 67 - I bet on any amateur in top ten and got 10-1 - he finished 11th after rubbish first round

They are all ordinary people at heart

You haven't reached later life yet. I hope you have a really nice day, but don't be overawed, these people are no better than you and probably no more fun than your regular fourball at you club. They sure as he'll won't remember you when they go home and they won't be saying to their wives/partners how nice it was to meet you. If you chance to have your photograph taken with them, don't forget to ask them where you should send their copy.

Sorry but that comes across as a very tired and jaded point of view. For many of these ex pros these charity events are their day jobs now and of course they won't give the "ordinary" golfer a second thought after the round. What they will do is make the experience as pleasurable as possible. Those celebrities I've played with always have a story or anectdote, much more interesting than the banter you'd get in your Saturday fourball and the same jokes. I hope the OP has the time of his life and enjoys meeting his idols.

Yes, mine is a jaded point of view, and I too hope that the OP has a good time and enjoys the course. I'm just trying to make the point that the celebrities are just people who have made it good, and I'm sure that they don't want to have to put up with any grovelling sycophants for 4/5 hours while they're are trying to play golf.

Not sure anyone has suggested anything like that

You wanted the OP to have that good a round your first post was to inform everyone they are sad

Nearly as bad as saying the course are pretty easy ;)

Truely one of the best posts I've seen on this forum.... have a lovely evening won't you.
