Hi all

Due to a massive stroke of luck I've got myself an invite to a charity golf day at Woburn GC.

My Mrs told me that it was with some ex-pro footballers (mostly Luton) and thought it sounded good, so said I'd love to play. I then joked with my mates and work colleagues about the day and "what if" if was with some of my heroes......well, turns out it is.

On the day the following people will be there..... Ian Wright, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Alan shearer.....and now the exciting bit..... ALAN HANSEN and KENNY DALGLISH. I swear on my life I'd dry hump Kenny around the course if I got anywhere near him!

Now, I play off 20. Have been told that Woburn is pretty damn tough. My Heroes will be there. I've got no chance of playing well!!

I may was just explode on the day.

So, have you ever played with someone famous or a hero of yours? How did you cope?

Talk about first tee nerves! Lets hope your not teeing off early so the ex cream of British football can see you duff one off the first ;)

I wasn't star struck but I was nearly struck by a star when the aforementioned KD and AH played their shots before we had cleared at green at Hillside in the GM meet there, and Dalglish's ball just missed me.

I hope you apologised to the King for nearly getting in his balls way? :whoo:

I played with Ray Houghton last year, being a Liverpool supporting Irish man that was pretty special!! Ray was nice, we had a great day, and he can play!!

Also played with Tony Gale in another charity bash, hes a funny fecker, I topped it off the 3rd and he ripped the piss out of me the whole way round. Took the piss out of everyone on the course too

wow, im very jealous not only are yo playing woburn but your playing with some of the best footballers that england produced.

Have a good day

Hansen and Dalglish aren't English... Unless you're talking about Lee Dixon? :p:p

Woburn isn't as fearsome as you may think. The Marquess is a bit tight especially for someone like me who can spray it off the tee but the Dukes and Duchess are pretty easy. I've played a few events with celebs (not footballers) and most are pretty decent people who are just like you and there to enjoy their golf. All the ones I've played with have been really friendly and they see a lot of poor golf so just relax and enjoy the day

met Shearer on the putting green at Gleneagles- lovely man, my wife had her pic taken with him, think Mr Shearer instigated that;)

Talk us through your scores round the Dukes and Duchess if they are not that tough Homer?

Op, I really wouldnt get yourself het up about playing with a few footballers, theyre just people like you and I. Have played in the England cricket golf day and with many footballers and other so called celebs, treat them like I would treat any other playing partner personally. Is this Brian Steins day you are playing?

Kelly maybe :D, but Kenny that is so wrong

Yeah it is. By some freaky coincidence his brother is married to a lady who is in my wifes group of "mummy" friends that get together with our toddlers.

Have fun, Brians one of the nicest guys out there. Was playing poker with him the other night talking about this day, first time hes run it but should be a cracking day, enjoy :)

I cant imagine this, I only have one sporting hero and he is laying in a coma at the moment. You know what they say though, never meet your heroes.

I guess focus on your golf and having fun with the company you in.

Try to relax and enjoy the day. I agree with whoever told you that Woburn is a tough venue - whichever of the 3 you get to play. So be prepared for that and just try to keep it out of trouble as best you can. No one will be concerned about your golf but you, so don't worry about what anyone else is thinking. You'll have a great day so enjoy

Came 3rd at that last Woburn day (Dukes from memory) and had a competitive score the year before in the GM meet on the Duchess. Only ever found the Marquess too intimidating for my game but have thought the other two a reasonable but not impossible game of golf. Just my view
