Ever played a round and been star struck? - Woburn with Ex footballers

Hi all

Due to a massive stroke of luck I've got myself an invite to a charity golf day at Woburn GC.

My Mrs told me that it was with some ex-pro footballers (mostly Luton) and thought it sounded good, so said I'd love to play. I then joked with my mates and work colleagues about the day and "what if" if was with some of my heroes......well, turns out it is.

On the day the following people will be there..... Ian Wright, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Alan shearer.....and now the exciting bit..... ALAN HANSEN and KENNY DALGLISH. I swear on my life I'd dry hump Kenny around the course if I got anywhere near him!

Now, I play off 20. Have been told that Woburn is pretty damn tough. My Heroes will be there. I've got no chance of playing well!!

I may was just explode on the day.

So, have you ever played with someone famous or a hero of yours? How did you cope?

What day is this mate ?

It's not that damp up there at the moment

The Duchess is the softest of the courses but the Dukes has dried out and the Marquess was ok.

Woburn isn't as fearsome as you may think. The Marquess is a bit tight especially for someone like me who can spray it off the tee but the Dukes and Duchess are pretty easy. I've played a few events with celebs (not footballers) and most are pretty decent people who are just like you and there to enjoy their golf. All the ones I've played with have been really friendly and they see a lot of poor golf so just relax and enjoy the day

Pretty easy ?!

The Marquess isn't tight - that would be the Duchess.

Yeah it is. By some freaky coincidence his brother is married to a lady who is in my wifes group of "mummy" friends that get together with our toddlers.

Enjoy it mate and also enjoy hearing Akabussi's laugh all over the course :D

I know a couple of ex footballers, they are just ordinary guys that want to have 4 hours of fun on the course just like anyone else. Relax and enjoy your day, I'm sure you'll have a great time :)

Its 7th of May...I literally may soil myself with excitement.

I have experienced that one, played with the great Bob Wilson and the great Mike Harris at Rory Underwood's charity day at Belton Park (before I was a member). Not a single place on the course that you could not hear it. Remember Willie Thorne doing a great auction after as well.

Hope you have a great day mate - just enjoy playing a great course with some great people

Might see you there

It just seems to travel all over the course - especially if playing the Duchess ! :D

Top bloke though

not a footballer, but yesterday i was on our practice ground for my lunch break and Sam Torrance is there filming for some golf aid for old people (honestly!) that was quite daunting, i looked up a few times and as he is waiting for the next scene or whatever he is looking over at me knifing wedges through the practice green! Ok some were good. Plus as i left i stopped and said hello, shook his hand etc. then 4 fellas in a group came to tee off where he was. they moved all the camera kit so they could continue. The banter was top class,

Old fella: Sam its a pleasure to meet you, so great to have you on our course. I was telling the chaps earlier how you are my favourite golfer.
Sam: "something" off, i bet you have been raving about Monty all morning!

Also when i had a putting lesson from David Howell, while a thoroughly top bloke, it was still pretty daunting too!

Agreed, also a lot taller and wider than I expected. Would not like to meet him in a fight.

As it was Rory Underwood's day, there were a number of ex Tigers there and that would have made me more starstruck. Did not help that I later hit Rory Underwood in the foot with a thinned 6 iron.

First tee shot was fine, a sweet 4 hybrid to position a on the fairway.

Used to see a lot of Andy Farrell when he played at Wigan and was a member of my old course. The guy is huge! Even with a 4 iron he resembled a gorilla with a match-stick.

A lot of a RAF guys would have paid to hit Underwood with a golf ball :D

Relax and enjoy the day!

That's what they are there for too.

If Les Ferdinand is there, don't play him for money! He's a bandit off 14!

No one as yet, but the wife's uncle (in Canada) belongs to a course that has half the maple leafs team as members!!!

Dying for him to take me next time we're in town

I once got stuck behind John Hartson at centre parcs, someone had to tell me who he was though  I don't really do football

If you don't know it's not worth me explaining.

Please enlighten us after insulting everyone

Are people sad for wanting to play golf with people they see as "heroes" or "role models" etc
