European Tour Golfer of the Year

I just looked at the ET website to try and find a more rounded player who stands out.....Yes, Luke will win it, but he's only played 13 times. I was hoping to find a workhorse who has improved from being just an ET player to a world class player to give the award too. Maybe Simon Dyson ? Came 10th (EUR 1.6m) on the OOM Played 29 times, played in the Seve Trophy, decent finish at the open.

However, for the wrong reason Nick Dougherty also stands out.....played 34 evens (the most was Jeppe Huldahl with 37), but Nick only managed EUR 10,600. Fair play to him for trying to get through a bad patch.

Luke Donald for me.

Disregarding The Open he's been by far the most consistent over the season. 14 top 10 finishes from 19 comps in the US and 10 of 13 in Europe. That's impressive!

Rory (who seems to be the closest "alternative") managed 12 from 19 in Europe, which isn't bad by any means. Just not as good as Luke's achievements - for me.

Luke by a country mile, with a special mention for Simon Dyson who has come on an amazing amount this year. He really looks like a top class player in the making...

If we are looking at the EUROPEAN tour golfer of the year, then logically we should be disregarding tournaments that are outside the European Tour

This means that all the US based tournaments count for zilch

Effects both players, but Luke still romps home

LUUUUKE

Fragger

winning both money titles will have no bearing on the outcome...

this is for the european player of the year so anything done over on the pga tour will play no role in it at all.

it's very even keel for me,both have mutiple wins but rors has the us open victory and had the oppertunity to win the title at the very end....i can see them possibly giving this to rors.

I think you make a very good point Wull. Luke won the Matchplay and the BMW and the European OoM. McIlroy won the US Open and came second in the OoM. The PGA Money list means nowt. But that said I'd still give it to Luke!

Don't forget Luke won the Barclays in Scotalnd too.....
And Rors won in Hong Kong.

Right wull, I could be reading this wrong, so put me right. BUT, If you are only talking european, nothing over on the pga. Is that US open in your euro count or not.

It can be argued that both have a shout at this - they've both won big events and won lots of cash.
For me the answer lies in the numbers.

This year Luke's played 13 and Rory 19 that count towards the RTD.

Luke has gained 351.05 World ranking points from these 13 events at an average of 27.00 per event.
Rory has gained 312.99 World ranking points from these 19 events at an average of 16.47 per event.

Add to this the 1,321,232 euros more the Luke has won and..

2 of Luke's 3 wins were arguably against stronger fields than Rorys other win - the US Open and the WGC had similar strength fields - Luke won the PGA at Wentworth and the Barclays at Castle Stuart. Rory's other win was in Hong Kong - not a particularly strong field. The Majors have 100 points up for grabs and the WGC events around 75. After that the number of points is determined by how many of the top 100 are playing. Luke got 64 for the PGA and 52 for the Barclays, Rory only got 38 for Hong Kong.

Admittedly, a Major is a Major but, if you look at it closely, the WGC Matchplay had a stronger field than the Open did - potentially making it a "better" win (6 good rounds instead of 4..)

The numbers tell it all.

It can only be Luke.
