European Football 2017/8

Total disaster for Rangers financially and Scottish football in general, yes Rangers should have won this game with their reserve team, St Johnstone look like going out which leaves just Aberdeen and Celtic, I think the latter can progress to the CL group stage but not too sure of Aberdeen's chances. We need the 'smaller' clubs to do a bit better in order to push up the UEFA co-efficient then the clubs wouldn't be having to enter at such an early stage and as such would probably be more match ready.
No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No :sbox:

We are so brainwashed by the weegie media, that fans of most clubs come out with this now.

Since the nonsensical set-up of european trophies began, there's just no point in teams from smaller countries being involved. Champions-and-a-few-places-below-that-League is set up for teams from the big four to succeed, and UEFA Cup is now set up for ateam from one of the big four to win it after getting his doggie's chance after being kncoked out of the Champions-and-a-few-places-below-that-League.

The best thing for Scottish football is for all our teams to get knocked out first/second qualifying rounds, so that the huge money imbalance isn't further exacerbated by Celtic coining it in in the Champions-and-a-few-places-below-that-League qwhich just makes domestic football more and more one-sided, as we're seeing all across europe now.

OR......all european money is split equally through all teams in that participants country? Football clubs seem to have forgotten it's meant to be about winning things!

Fair point.

I'm a Raith Rovers fan, when we made our one and only appearance in Europe it was back when it was a straight draw knockout, none of this group stage nonsense. We managed to beat GI Gotu of the Faroes and Akranes of Iceland before being knocked out by the minnows Bayern Munich, still have a picture of the half time scoreboard at the Olympic stadium reading FC Bayern 0 Raith Rovers FC 1 !!!!!!!

Back then it was prestige of being involved in European competition, not how much money can we make from this.

Celtic back in CL qualifier action tonight. Rosenberg are probably a step un from Linfield although they did struggle to get past Dundalk in the last round. Even with Griffiths serving a 1 game ban for the home leg and Dembele potentially out injured I can't see why Celtic will not progress from this tie, Nicklas Bendtner will be the one to watch for the Norwegians.

Then again I thought the Glasgow wee team would beat Progres Niedercorn

A bad result for the green and white hoops last night but at least they didn't concede so I still fancy them to progress.

Aberdeen at home tonight with a realistic but difficult chance if they perform to their potential.

I've said this for years. Leave England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France to UEFA. The rest of Europe should break away from them citing biased unfair treatment. As has been said already, it's a money spinning revenue making circus for top teams the rest get thrown the occasional bone to gnaw on.

Everton start tonight in the Europa League and would argue we're on a different level to Chelsea/City etc, we would be a team that would lose out in any break away.

Totally agree with you about it being a money spinner.

Agreed about last night's result, however with Griffiths and Dembele out you wonder what Cifci has to do to get a sniff at the 1st team (not even sure if he's still there ?). However with a striker back for the away leg I think Celtic can progress, Tough proposition for the Don's tonight but hoping they can come through it and get to the group stage, would be a welcome financial boost for a team like Aberdeen.

Don't disagree with you. Teams like Everton will comfortably make the group stages or certainly should do however they then get a kick in the stones when the "big teams" who get knocked out of the Champions League get their second chance and more revenue making potential due to a pathetic parachute system.

It's so biased and unfair it's cringe worthy.

However all that said the money Everton have spent this pre season is eye watering.

The new owner got frustrated at Arsenal, left and bought us, hopefully it's money that's been spent wisely.

That was awful, felt more like a pre-season friendly.

Biggest and possibly only positive was Klasssen, he looks like he could be quality.

A win for Aberdeen but not convinced it's going to be enough to be honest. A host of decent chances which went a begging, that could come back to haunt them.

Saying that under McInnes Aberdeen are a decent unit and are more than capable of scoring in Cyprus. Since McInnes took over their best European results have been away from home.

Everton I expected to win comfortably, didn't see any of the game so don't know how they played. Is it another example of "no mugs in European football anymore" or was it a poor performance?

They came to defend and had 1 or 3 chances that they should of done better with, bad finishing.

Our performance? To me it was poor, I expected more, surprised with a few of his choices for the starting 11, next week is not the formality it should've been.

I hope we draw Steaua in the 3rd round qualifier tomorrow ;)
