And what happens to the parliament building in Strasbourg for the other 317 days per year?

The British Tourism Agency figures are that tourism linked to the Royal Family brings in £500 million per year drawing visitors to the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle etc. Add profits from the Crown Estate (£304 million last year) and that's over £800 million.
Next year the Royal Family will get £46 million from the public purse - on top of which you have to add security costs covered by the Met but I'm not sure that would make it the quoted £400 million per year it's claimed they cost us.
Some 'stretched' links there.
I have been to Windsor Castle twice to accompany my missus who was helping with historical research. We certainly did not go to see the Queen.
Obviously no value on PR.
But never mind...... uncomfortably off topic for some.
BTW......What happens to these buildings when the Queen is not in residence.![]()
I can 100% assure you a lot of tourists visit London in the hope of seeing a "Royal" and all that goes with it, probably spoken to more tourists in London than most on here and without our Royalty many tourists would not make London the priority they do, Europe is full of empty palaces and it is our monarchy, history and traditions which give us an edge and make London a "must visit" location for tourists. The Royals pay more than £400m in tax? Really.
Money brought in from tourism can never properly be accounted for. Do people really visit London to see the Queen or Prince Charles or do they go to see the sites? People go to Paris to see the sites, no royalty left there. Tourists would still come to London, Royal family or not.
I can 100% assure you a lot of tourists visit London in the hope of seeing a "Royal" ...
If you're so keen to talk about the Queen, start your own thread.
Thank you
My wallet does!Do you like the smell of Naphthalene?
You are at will to, you can also defend the EU if you wish.Just providing a bit of balance to your rather one sided OP.
Did you really think that anyone would disagree with it ?
Some are, I've experienced it first hand, even the reaction to Royal cars at times has to be seen to be believed and it's people from all parts of the globe.Surely they are not that daft!
The paraphernalia that's associated with the Royals..Buck House, Westminster, St James's Palace, Windsor etc perhaps! But surely not 'a Royal'! Though it's possible to encounter them if you happen to be in the right place at the right time!
Am I right in thinking that the EU STILL moves the whole circus from Brussels to Strasbourg every month for 4 days. At the end of the 4 days, it's all moved back again.........all at the tax payers expense ?
I hate to think how much that costs
A drop in the ocean compared to some of our wasteful spending!
A drop in the ocean compared to some of our wasteful spending!
How many extra doctors/nurses/teachers/police officers etc could you get for £130m per year........ and that's just one example of the waste.
Not as many as you could get for £2 billion a year!
It is but its still wasteful. I wonder how much is paid out every month in mileage claims and hotel bills to move 280miles/5 hours?
Maybe more than a drop in the ocean...
EU has no money at all. Not a single penny. It ours...given back to us, net of what they waste... eg as in the original post.
Certainly true I don't disagree... But when the money is handed out it comes labelled as being from the EU... Just have to read the plaques attached to the various projects funded via Brussels...
