Yep, a friend of mine had one. Me........I loved my 2 Sapphire Cossies.......road legal racing cars I can tell you.

Mind you, it had 220bhp, but the E320 Merc Estate I have now has 232bhp - from a Diesel !!

I have to confess to being a car nut myself.
The early imprezas, cossies and integrales were what got my attention. Marshalling on the circuit of Ireland and the Lurgan Park rallies each year got me really close to rally motors too. Definately the reason I have an impreza wrx now. To be honest i think the escort should be brought back as I don't like the focus, it's not an exact replacement for the escort either in my mind.

Oh stop it everyone, I'm contemplating changing my car and would seriously love to get something I could never afford when I was 17, (not that I learned to drive until I was 21).

Delta Integrale is one of my top 3 favourite hot hatches ever.

I had the one down from the Integrale....similar to the fact that I have the "one down" from the FRP (Ford Racing Puma) , the boggo 1.7 and always avoided the GT4 Celica for the GT.

Insurance issues....not that I have single point or claim.

Last time I saw an integrale was in the snow last year. I was really struggling, driving down hill on a sheet of ice, he was just laughing, with no probs at all. In Martini racing colours too. Proper car. Can't be many left.Tin worm and dodgy electrics must have killed most of them.

Still fancy a G plate Audi Quattro. mmmm, 220 bhp. Wow, my Chrysler diesel has 215. Mind you, the Audi would at least go round corners.

Those Fords named after "male interest" (?!) magazines, Fiesta/Escort.....makes you wonder why they didn't name the Mondeo the Ford "Hustler".

I wanted a Lancia Delta HF Turbo back in the late 80's but got put off by the potentially huge repair bills. Ended up with a Toyota Corolla GT in white with all the skirts and spoilers.
Went like a rocket.

Those were the days......

But then the Escort (a la Cosworth era above) is much nearer to a Focus than it is to an actual Escort, MkI or II. Those were proper Escorts.

Having been an Escort owner (proper 4 door saloon era) and now the owner of an ST170, and having driven my sisters RS Turbo Escort (in between hatchback era), the Focus wins hands down. It's like driving a go-kart, and well put together unlike Fords of the 60s, 70s, 80s and much of the 90s.

Toyota Corolla GT

Some of the members in the Toyota club felt that the performance of the Corolla GTi (E80) 1983-1987 was better than the MR2 and Celica. The one we all wanted was the 2.8 Celica Supra.
The Corolla was fun....the RWD AE86 "Levin" coupe is still sought after, especially in Japan where completely rebuilt cars fitted with TRD modifications are street-racing legends.

I own a mk1 golf gti.

It does have a mk3 golf engine in with 192bhp, you can't beat the older cars for character just a shame they cost so much to keep in good condition.

Fantastic. Just my kind of car.

192 bhp.....when it originally had a 1.8 8v...  :D

Im going to do a VW Corrado (my mate has one running S3 gear) or Pug 205 GTI next year ready to track it in the summer.

My dad and brother have track cars so I want to catch up and get my own.

You want to see my old man shoehorning himself into the seats of his tiger!

I fit in it, just!

Just really fancy a nice retro hot-hatch to dick about with, make stupidly quick and then go and terrorise a few evo's, skylines & scoobys.

here's a few pics of my escort cossie. Spent the last 3 years doing a full nut and bolt restoration on it. New engine built
to 514 bhp (on engine dyno).

This was before the resto...
