ES12 Launch monitor

No spin rate kills it for me, I hit into a net and am not too interested in distance but am always very keen to know if I have a minus number on the ball, ie did it turn left.... Shame but it would be a lot to expect from a device that costs so little.

I predict that if jgbike's test give anything +\- 3 yards accuracy on 90% of well hit shots then there will be few others purchasing (me included)

Reason being, that of course for the money you can't expect it to what the £5000+ launch monitors do. But learning your distance control, personally is invaluable for getting better.

Jgbike - full review with vids if you get the chance!

No probs doing a review hopefully will have it next week some time I will also check it agains the pros GC2 launch monitor, if you want spin rate you are going to have to spend a lot of money by the the way you can use it in a net there is a vid on you tube just type in ES12 launch monitor.

I ordered one yesterday after receiving a response to all the questions I asked. The guy was very helpful, friendly and responded quickly. Apparently the ES12 will work in a net as the doppler radar only needs a very short space to pick up the ball speed and calculate the carry distance. He confirmed the ball speed is of course dependent on the kind of ball you are using, so if you were hitting a typical range ball that doesn't fly as far as a proper golf ball, the unit would provide distances for the range ball and allowances would need to be made for the extra distances a proper ball will fly. As I use real balls in an indoor net, this is OK for me. The units are advertised at £219 with free shipping, but if you look on the website there is a coupon code that gives £20 off.
Like everyone, I will be very interested to see how accurate the ES12 is and I will let you know when I have had chance to test it out. It seems the next best thing to a GC2 which I was very interested in. Now that really is an excellent piece of kit, but at £5295 + vat it makes the ES12 look great value. Measuring spin would be great, but I guess you can't expect everything for £200. I take the point of a previous poster about spending the money on lessons. Good advice, but I have had dozens over the last 2 years and I am still crap!:D
