I can't see England coming home straight after the groups. They'll probably scrape through with some nervy games which will probably include losing to the USA.
After that it's luck....except teams make their luck by actually trying, which England are not exactly known for.

Robo, I am only going by what my colleague txt me last night. He is a mad England fan from Sheffield and he says him and his mates are dreading the WC. He says the team is too old and most of th starting 11 will not be in peak condition (Rio, King, Rooney and Cashley).

I hope they do well but I cant say I want them to win it not because the English people but the English press and media. The mention of '66 get squeezed in at every turn even when it has nothing to do with the game or sport that is being comentated on.

Ing-er-land just need the right incentive scheme, I'd suggest that they shoot one player every time they lose a goal, that should provoke some spirit, and sorry Dodger you can't shoot any before they play. ;)

That's the whole point Madandra, they (and we) are fans. They see things through the eyes of a fan who watches the action that the camera shows them without the appreciation of the big picture. They are well meaning but wouldn't have the insight that staff who work with the players day in and day out do.

A little knowledge is dangerous, the "Andy Gray" comment was toungue in cheek, but why do people who couldn't pass wind never mind a football feel qualified to question how Capello and his players approach a FRIENDLY prior to the real business in a couple of weeks time?

Dodger - I saw from the CS photos that you aren't the tallest. You appear to suffer with the short angry man syndrome. Must be a sad existance to thrive on somebody else failing. :D

just thought I would reel out the line about poor footballers making some of the best managers.

my thoughts are semi's, but i have no idea of the possible opponents on the way.

Unfortunately it's a line that doesn't stack up anymore. To manage at that level you will need to be in possesion (or have a dispensation as you are working towards) your UEFA Pro license. A license that can only be acquired by ex professionals or by special invite after showing outstanding coaching ability over a sustained period (They are very rare).

The license below that (UEFA "A") has a 1st time pass rate of about 15%.

As per my original post Dodger, the Scots & Welsh are excused. A victory for you both will be seeing England lose regardless of how your own Countries' fare.

Pointless asking if I/ we would do the same if the shoe was on the other foot because that's never going to happen now is it?

Nothing to do with arrogance, as your recent results have been so poor, it's becoming harder and harder for you to qualify for a major tournament because you will be in the same group as 2 seeded teams as well as one other from the next ranking tier.

Unless you have a production line of outstanding kids that are just about to burst through, this isn't going to change and will just become tougher and tougher as you slide further down the world ranking tables. Not arrogance just facts surrounding the sad situation that Scottish football finds itself in.

Far from wishing you to fail I would actually like to see you have acompetitive team that could put up a challenge so that if/ when we do meet again it will actually mean something.

As for the silly scum/ filth comments. I'd be a bit embarrased if I was you. There are far more things deserving of that description rather than a group of people who happen to born in a different place to you.

I remember when we were all Irish for a while when they qualified for the World Cup (and did bloody well!)
I also remember many years ago rooting for the Scots (Archie Gemmills goal was class) I was quite young then.

What doesn't help is when the official Scotland World Cup song from some years ago (Allys Army) mentioned that England didnae qualify. If an England song mentioned that the Scottish team weren't good enough to qualify yhere'd be hell on.

Still. Scotlands official song for their next qualification was "Don't come home too soon" So much for confidence there then!

Come on guys, be nice. As long as a British team qualifies for the world cup, can't we all root for them?

England have a good squad of players 5 or 6 could play for any team in Europe if they all stay fit they could get to simi final but no farther i feel.

I would rather have seen Wayne Bridge in the squad and John Terry left out hes had a very poor season and think he will get found out against the better sides if we progress.King is far and away a better player, him and Ferdinand could do well. He could have had Dawson or Carragher as cover.

I dont think the comment about Lampard and Gerrard holds up they said the same about Annelka And Drogba and look how well they have played this season.Hope he plays Gerrard in a more attacking role from the middfield where hes at his best.

I'm with robo on this one, its getting increasingly more dificult for the Scots and the Welsh to do anything much for the foreseeable future for the reaons he gave.

My view, for whats its worth, is i'd leave Warnock, Dawson, Upson, Huddleston, Carrick, SWP and Bent at home.

It leaves 4 centre halfs in there, cover at both full back roles (milner in at LB if we are stuck), enough midfeilders to cover a few formations and a few striking options remembering the walcott can play up front as well. Personally i'd be playing with Gerrard off rooney (as he did so well at 'pool when alonso was still there), I'd play Adam Johnson on the left and hope Barry is fit to benefit Lampard.

Keeping the ball is our biggest flaw and i cant see us getting through the tournament without this becoming apparent, but i'm hopeful of getting to the semi's and you just never know then.

just to prove a point, there was no mention of '66 either!

Dare I ask where the Scotland Team will be based during the World Cup?

I think the answer is... Scotland :D

When Scotland qualified and England didnt, I wanted the scots to do well. Why cant we all be supportive of each other.

Peace & Love
