After yet another luclustre performance by England I am wondering if there is still high expectations from the fans?

This isn't a muck slinging thread but if I were a fan I would be looking round for each way bets on someone else lifting the Cup.

At this stage none of the players want to get injured so the poor performance was always to be expected. I hope England do win - I just can't see it.
Historically we've only made the final of a Major comp in '66 - most of the time its quarters or semi at best. We're ranked 8th in the world - for a reason. There are 7 better teams than us. One of these is going to get us somewhere down the line.
Quarter finals for sure - Semi Final an outside bet.

Ok it was better in the second half, but the first half was rubbish. i hope people like Joe Cole, Shaun Wright-Phillips, etc get to go, in stead of Walcott,& Bent

I liked the look of Joe Hart in goal, I see james as 3rd keeper, Hart second and Green First.

So the question is who are going to be the 7 to drop out

It wont happen, obviously, but if I had my way, the 7 would be :

Upson, Warnock, Huddlestone, Carrick, Barry ( Only coz of the injury ) Wright-Phillips, Heskey.

Not too upset if Parker goes and Huddlestone stays.

Can Gerrard and Lampard play together?

Yes, say all the pundits. All they have to do is when one goes forward, the other stays back. And they're both intelligent footballers, they can do that.

So..

when Gerrard played a one two with Rooney in the 80th minute on the edge of the box which nearly came off,

how come Lampard was making the same run, and getting in the way ?

Truth is we are in the Top 10 in the world but not the Top 3, we could beat any of them on a good day but to do it 3 times in a row (Quarters,Semi's,Final) is probably too much to ask.

We can dream but out of all the European nations you've got to fancy Spain then Holland before us.

Very poor performance considering players were playing for places.IMO we have no chance,please someone tell me why johnson wasnt playing,by all accounts he was flying in training.We have no balance,lennon,wright phillips or even gerrard on the left wont work it has to be johnson or joe cole.As for bent feeling a bit sorry for him the service he was getting was non existent.

I blame Andy Gray & Sky for threads like this. Just because Fat John/ Joe/ Dave/ Fred/ Bob etc has a sky subscription and listens to Andy Gray et al talk about this formation or that formation they think they have an encyclopaedic knowledge on what people at the top of their profession should be doing.

You have absolutely no idea of what has happened or is happening day in day out on the training pitch. You also don't get a camera trained on this individual or that individual to actually see what they are contributing over the whole 90 minutes.

I can excuse the jocks & welsh because they only have amateur football to watch in their countries so have little knowledge. A victory for them is England getting beat, that narrow mindedness is why they can book their holidays every June/ July without consulting the fixture lists.

At least let them have a go in the actual competition before slating Capello for not picking x or y.

You dont have to be einstein to see players that are not suited to certain positions,and watching the game you could see what players were doing off the ball.Of course it was a friendly but some players were playing for a seat and just didnt perform thats why capello never changed the 23 he already has in his head.
