My Mrs is 100% spooked by what today has cost compared with last few days.

In this colder spell we have been usually £4.50-£5 combined since we went onto the standard variable rate at end Jan. Today we are going to be at least £7.50…maybe verging on £8. And not an unusual day today…plus I already turned heating down a notch between 9 and 5…and have had it switching off an hour earlier.

Mrs works in our garden studio. We only have a convection heater out there so she Is going to work in the house until it warms up a little.

Unless something drastic happens this is going to be very difficult indeed for the poorest in society, and that should give all of us better off cause to pause and consider what could and should be done to help. Because I fear that this is going to be bad, very bad.

Did anyone apply for the rebate? A friend of ours did it for us and we got £600, my stepson over £800, a friend got £1100 and her mum got £900.

I don't know. It was a friend of my missus who appealed for us, but that particular deal ended on 31 March

Who is it that actually decides the wholesale energy supply and demand price rises/levels?
Is it Russia, the Middle east, or just the individual supply companies,
Who are they? , can we stop them?

theoretically its supply and demand driven by market forces that determine wholesale prices, so the mkt sets the price based on what supply is available, what buyers need and are prepared to pay for it (and a bundle of speculators)

can you stop them, in a word no, do individual governments have the power to limit what energy companies charge in their jurisdiction (or apply windfall taxes etc) probably

France ordered EDF to swallow the costs of the rises

Ofc the people of France will pay for it general taxation but at least they can afford to heat their homes.

The 1st 'new world' bill has arrived.

Helped by 10 days abroad our energy consumption is down by 14% for electricity and 43% for gas versus last April.
We paid £35 more for electricity and £17 more for gas. £52 up in total on last year.

This was our highest electricity bill ever, gas of course is lower than a winter bill.
Going to enjoy the summer for a few months now..

Somebody, or bodies, sits down and decides to put up the price simply to get more money.
But they come up with some sort of global reason as an excuse, of course!

We cut gas down as boiler goes off in April for heatin, the air con can provide enough heat if needed

Still spending £1.50 a day in cooking, showers and a bath for the kids

Electric is fine because it's fixed at old rates...solar goes up Monday so that should fall dramatically
