End of Season Review

Had an OK season, but not to the standard of most on here. Wanted to beat 100 on my course and finally managed it mid season, since then generally score between 97 and 94. Next seasons target is to finally get round to getting a handicap and my first ever birdie, been close a few times but get all excited and make a mess of my putting.
 
Im dissaipointed not getting my h/c down this season went up from 20 to 21,but after my best ever round of gross 82 ive got a winter h/c of 17.7.

Won our senior h/c, lost in the final of our matchplay, won our 3 club comp. and a stableford comp.So all in all pleased with my season,but i would really like a cut next season.

Going to do a basic instructors course next May to help with the juniors ,which hopefully will help my own game.

My year has been superb from June onwards , before that as many of you know it was in the doldrums and a complete bag of spanners. A mid season piece of self councilling and a big change in attitude has turned this into a season to remember.

After drifting out to 5.4 it all came together and have just reached my lowest ever h/c and my seasons goal of 3.3

Along with this i've won 5 honours board comps , unprecented in the clubs history by all accounts. Club champion , singles h/c matchplay champ and OOM title along with 2 others.

Played at Walton Heath to represent GM (new Ping driver is superb btw) and have played plenty of opens and all told about 30 rounds at other courses this year with most being courses i havnt played before.

Now looking forwrd to not having a care in the world over the winter and getting out once a week to knobble it round for some exercise

5 Honours board comps is pretty/Very good going and to reach your goal is IMO as big as an achivement. Well Done.

Down to 2 or 1 next year???
 
Not a bad year for me since it's the first year i've started to really get into golf and play more. Aint got an official handicap yet but i'm round about the 27-28 handicap. Really think i have the potential to knock a good 10 shots off that if i just sort out squaring my club face up at impact as the rest of my game aint too shabby.

Goals for next year is to get an offical handicap, play some competions, play more courses/golf holiday and go to the open after experiencing the ryder cup this year.
 
I was going to say disappointing as my handicap went up from 12 to 13 and I wanted to get down to 10. But I had keyhole surgery on my left knee at the end of May which stopped me playing for a while. I can't be that disappointed as I'm back on the course and feeling confident with the knee, so things are looking starting to look up.
 
Very happy with my year. Got back into it, didnt have any specific targets but beating 80 last weekend was a very pleasant surprise.

Looking forward to getting out regularly over the winter to hopefully hit the ground running next year
 
When I write it down it doesn't seem so bad, but I'm not happy with how it went this season.

I was overall winner in a midweek medal, won my division of a monthly medal, and came third in a pairs comp.
Lost in the semi of the doubles matchplay, and lost in the final of the singles matchplay.

Also had a ridiculously good score in practice (on my own).

But... my handicap has gone from 11 to 12 to 10 and back to 11 again, and I feel I'm hitting it worse now than at any time this year.
Having said that, I feel that I'm "this far" from it all clicking into place.

well done to everyone whose 'caps have tumbled, some seriously good seasons there with all the wins too.

Up the forum!! :D
 
Worst season in years started at 4.7 went up as high as 5.7 before coming back down to 5.2. Had a total mare of a year and lost the art of scoring despite hitting the ball quite well.

Only good thing about this year was winning the Ping competition on here and getting a wonderful day out at Walton Heath , meeting up with Smiffy, Jammy and the likes and playing with Mike.

Highlight of my year by far.
 
Wanted to get to single figures. Started on 11 and ended (to date) on 12 so great damage done but no real progress either. That said I won an honours board event (thanks mainly to HTL it must be said) had a couple of top 3's and played a few different courses.

I feel like my game has improved even if that isn't reflected in my handicap progression and feel like the lessons have helped. Contrary to popular belief there were only 6 all year. One was to cure a dose of the shanks, one was a bunker lesson and there were two chipping ones (two different teachers but one was a freebie lesson anyway). There were only two other lessons on the full swing so hardly paralysis by analysis this year. That has been the key. I'm enjoying it more anyway. OK it's still not fun playing badly but I've learned to be a lot more accepting of my poor shots and bad rounds.

I've tried to keep swing thoughts to a minimum and be more relaxed in the group and enjoy the scenery and the company. Thanks to all the forummers I've played with and to those who came to Ascot for the GM day.

All in all an enjoyable if not vintage year. Definitely a 7/10
 
This is a hard one for me. I started crap as usual but started playing some of my best nearer the end of the season. At the end of the season i played my worst golf ever!. I got down to 5.6(p.b) but went up 0.6 in last 7 competitions :mad:. I wanted to get down to 4 or even category 1 but fell short again. 1.0 off this year though so going in the right direction very slowly ;)

Well I thought I had had a great season. I exceeded my handicap expectations but now I seem to have stopped and am going backwards. The idea of my handicap going back up is killing me and I know it’s not good to think like that.

I am trying to keep my work rate up but I am now chasing it on and off the course and I made all my gains in the summer by not chasing it.

So I guess I know the problems, just looking for the cure now. I know, chill out, but I feel like I need to somehow put my mark on things and MAKE them happen, but you can’t do that in golf.

Just need to stay with my program.

Well don’t to all those who made their targets this year.
 
So/so year for me. Struggling to play to my handicap at the moment, flashes of brilliance, (which shows me that the game is still in there somewhere), but this is then followed by total and utter crap. No consistency at all.
Played some fantastic new courses this year (which I always enjoy) and had some great trips out.
Scotland and Castle Stuart, Nairn and Spey Valley which was an experience in itself with the weather we had on the day but doesn't distract from what a lovely course it was and I'd love to go back and play there in better weather. Biggest disappointment for me? Boat of Garten. After reading about it many years ago and hearing how wonderful it was, to play it in the condition it was in during our trip was heartbreaking. Probably the worst greens I have ever played on.
Forest Pines (two visits in May and August) and of course the Walton Heath experience which was fantastic. This led to a visit to the Ping factory and a great game around their Karsten Lakes course with JustOne, which was one of my better games. Loved the track too.
Cooden meet was great, loved the fact that everybody who attended was pleased with the course...always satisfying that.
Have some nice trips planned for next year already, just got to put in a little time for some practice...something that I haven't done for years but have a couple of things to work on specifically.
Not looking to chase any honours next year, just looking for a little more consistency.
 
Poor year for me - up to 13.7 - was playing well in the first quarter, especially beating one of the guys at the club with a 78 - my best score there - but not in a proper comp!! Highlight - playing Loch Lomond a couple of weeks ago - what a fantastic place, 2 nights but only one round, via transfers in range rovers. Low point - form over past few months - I keep losing balls - 19 in Cooden over 2 rounds was an all-time low! And I haven't got through a round without losing one since! Playing today in the roll up and it looks nice weather so looking forward to that
 
Forgot the other highlight - my first eagle at Bearwood a few weeks ago - best five wood ever for my second on the fifth from the inside corner - 235 to the pin at the back of the green on the right side of middle - it was tracking it as soon as it left the club and was a four footer!! Took me to level in the medal and then I went to jelly and couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo! 1 over handicap was a sh*te finish so that can join the lows!
 
I've hardly played this year, work and injuries got the better of me. Handicap hasn't moved as I only played 2 comps all year. I've really chopped it around at times, but strangely had my best ever non competition rounds of 2 over, and a couple at 4 over.

Looking forward to next season already. Back at the gym to get a bit fitter, have some lessons booked and will hopefully be at a new club
 
Went the wrong way! Missed my target by 10.

Trying to get my H/C up to 14 which is what I think i should be for a nice comfortable social H/C.
I didn't practise and I still got cut. What do I have to do??

I'm not going to make that mistake again lol , its just play golf and see what happens. Self inflicted handicap pressures are what made me fall out of love with the game. Not going to happen again and if I end up off 4 or 5 then so be it
