End of Season Review

A slightly frustrating year for me. Despite 6 short game lessons and at least 40 hours chipping/pitching practice there has been very little improvement.

Two 1sts and two 2nds in the midweek stableford comps but my handicap is ony 0.3 lower than at the start of the year.

My golfing year has been unproductive but very enjoyable, perhaps I'm destined to be a Happy Hacker ?

Well played to everyone who got cut this year but especially JammyD and Liam who have both had stonking seasons!!!! If you had asked me this question a week ago I'd have said this year was a disaster. Now I think it has been extremely helpful. I've learnt a huge amount this year and though I am marooned on 28, I think I am now ready to kick on. I haven't set myself a handicap target for next year at the moment, except to be less than 28 :D My aim next year is to break 90 and enjoy my golf. Anything else will be a bonus.

For those whose seasons are still going I hope you sign off on a high.

Glad you've had a good year Screwback , tough off your handicap so you must have played some excellent golf at times.

My year has been superb from June onwards , before that as many of you know it was in the doldrums and a complete bag of spanners. A mid season piece of self councilling and a big change in attitude has turned this into a season to remember.

After drifting out to 5.4 it all came together and have just reached my lowest ever h/c and my seasons goal of 3.3

Along with this i've won 5 honours board comps , unprecented in the clubs history by all accounts. Club champion , singles h/c matchplay champ and OOM title along with 2 others.

Played at Walton Heath to represent GM (new Ping driver is superb btw) and have played plenty of opens and all told about 30 rounds at other courses this year with most being courses i havnt played before.

Now looking forwrd to not having a care in the world over the winter and getting out once a week to knobble it round for some exercise

5 Honours board comps is pretty/Very good going and to reach your goal is IMO as big as an achivement. Well Done.

Down to 2 or 1 next year???

I'm not going to make that mistake again lol , its just play golf and see what happens . Self inflicted handicap pressures are what made me fall out of love with the game. Not going to happen again and if I end up off 4 or 5 then so be it

Great attitude to have!

As you say its one thing having a target but you dont want to add pressure to your game chasing it!!!

My aims for the year were to win a competition (won two, one of which was a board comp), and to get to single figures - I'm down to 9.0.

Best year I've had on the course for a long time.

Started the season with much confidence. First couple of competitions went very well. Handicap stayed the same. After that had mixed fortunes, mostly not so good which saw a steady rise in handicap. Thing was I knew my game had improved, just couldn't put into practise in the comps.

Took until the last game of the season to come good. Played my best ever round and dropped 2 shots off my handicap which left me happy. Winning my division was a big, big lift and reinforced my belief that may game was improving. Obviously hoped to shave more off my handicap but believed you have to rise then hit the plateau in order to improve and come down.

I believe I have got my moneys worth from my club this year. Frequent after work visits. More competitions entered this season including medals (was terrified of entering previously!)

I intend to keep on swinging through the closed season when able. Looking to play in a few of the informal winter knock ups and keep my game and rhythm going.

Bring on season 2011, I'm ready for you! :)
