Elon Musk

I'd forgotten because unfortunately, he lives here.
UK would like to bring back its thriving automotive industry from years back, right?
[College kids loved MG Midgets and Austin Healey Sprites when I was a kid.]

Take Tesla with my blessing. "X" also, while you're at it.

Not really our cars have always been rubbish

Self drive is very close. Infact I believe it's fully working it's just legally banned on roads
I've got some prime swampland to sell you. (y)

Meanwhile, Waymo, owned by a tech company doing cars have theirs on the street and working while the car company pretending to be a tech company have been saying for 10 years that it's coming next year.

You know he is south African right?
Yeah, but I'm American and live in the UK....so you gotta take some responsibility for letting crazy people into your country. Musk causes most of his problems in the US....so kind of their problem now. Also, Musk was born in S Africa.....became Canadian.....then American.... at least according to Wiki

I don't want to buy Florida thanks 👍

i agree while Tesla shouts the loudest when it comes to FSD, the others like Waymo and the Chinese may have gotten ahead of them.

S African, Canadian, American, Californian, Texas... the reality is that the only person Musk cares for is himself. He supports the Orange pumpkin because he wants to penalise the Chinese. He would support Harris if she said the same things (but she is a woman too). Like Boris, does anyone know (or care) how many kids Musk has?...

moral of the story.. Dont get into fight on a forum based on a man who does not care 2 hoots about him. Applaud the engineering marvel that was created.

He is, but he got Canadian citizenship when he was 18 and American in 2002 so technically YOB is right in saying he is 1/3rd an American idiot 😁👍

Oddly enough I asked the question in a quiz re where was Elon Musk born. Out of 50 folk on the bus. No one knew.😳

My first car was an MG midget 1500 twin carb.😁👍

It was so wet this morning that the adaptive cruise control packed in on the car I was driving and it got me thinking.

How are self drive cars going to deal with a typical uk winter, fog, ice, snow, rain, road dirt etc

See it was very wet this morning for me but my adaptive has never failed yet

Lane detection is better at spotting lanes somehow than I am in the wet! Mad

Tesla are a game above my car their autopilot now is fantastic

My Kia can drive itself (adaptive with self steer) but if it detects your hands not on the wheel it bongs at you until you replace them on

Having bought a new Mazda CX-5 I have today turned off the lane detection on the car.It was doing my flippin head in.
Driving down the A614 and there was a clear dry/wet line where the cars had been driving. The lane detection alarm was going off for two minutes. What’s that all about.

Personally I think the problem with the Tesla self drive is that they are refusing to use lidar and are insisting on using vision only all because Musk doesn't want to use lidar or didn't want to at the start. You probably can't retrofit it onto all the Tesla's they have already sold with FSD. It's going to take them forever to get approval for it, if they ever do as they are the only ones taking the vision only approach. How well does it deal with rain, fog etc? Lidar doesn't have those issues.

With every passing year they are falling further and further behind not only Waymo but the glut of Chinese car makers as well who are all using lidar in their self driving systems. Just go and have a look at some of the BYD cars that are in showrooms right now, they have a better spec than a Tesla and their batteries aren't that far behind, if at all. The one main advantage of a Tesla is the supercharger network though.

That is why Tesla are ahead of everyone, their network is first class

If I did regular long distance it wouldnt even be a choice I'd get one as the network is second to none

Elon says he wants to bring Tesla into India.. I want to know how the full self driving is going to recognise a cow in the middle of the road while trying to avoid hitting a family of 7 coming down the wrong way in a 1 way on a motorcycle

If Elon wants to be successful in India, he needs to design an electric tut tut. 👍

There are plenty of Indian cos doing that.. some of the tech in Indian cars these days is amazing - we don’t hear much of it as mostly domestic consumed.

Here is one of the cheaper solutions.. uses battery swap for 2 and 3 wheelers

I have mine turned down to the lowest level. It is interesting what it sees and how it interprets things.
