Electric trolleys should be banned !!!!!

You've got to love this post!

I can't see how a trolley can ever be faster. You can't walk across greens and you can't take it on the tee. You also can't walk across ponds (admittedly, you get a bit wet!)

If I've had a 'mare and get behind the rest of my 4-ball, I might even "leg it" with a bag to save time.
You know, if they're on the green and I'm visiting the more scenic areas (!) I might jog over to my ball and hit it on the green, then jog around the front towards to the tee to drop/stand my bag.

The other day I did this. I was still on for a point. I hastily pulled out my putter, removed the head-cover and headed post-haste to my ball. I got to my ball, eyed up a quick read then realised I'd left the putter in the bag and was holding the cover.....D'oh!
 
I think it basically comes down to education. Lots of clubs have a white line near the gree where trollies have to go around and so its a case of following the line and leaving the trolley at the point of exit from the green.

I understand they do have a place in club golf especially for the more mature members and so a call to ban them is plain silly. Why take out the enjoyment and exercise for a large proportion of the golfing membership. However I do concede that an 18 year old in the prime of fitness needs to stop being a namby pamby and get the bag on his back and get carrying.

From the perspective of Cat. 1 golfers using them, I think it comes fromt he viewpoint of being ready for anything and most will probably have waterproofs, a few spare gloves, drinks, energy bars and fruit, a spare jumper etc. I know that when I'm playing and the forecast is for rain I pack two or three towels and 4-5 gloves so I can make sure my grips are as dry as possible before I hit a shot.

At the end of the day there is a place for electric trollies. They are not the work of the devil and I don't believe they are any more of a time delay than someone meandering up the fairway with a bag on his back. There are loads of ill educated carriers who leave their bags in ill opportune places and there will never be a call to ban bags. Its all education, education education.
 
This thread needs to go on the same pile of s***e as the "GPS should be banned" one.

If you want to carry, crack on. I will be the one with the Tour Bag on my Powakaddy, after all you never know when that kitchen sink will come in handy!! :D
 
Well I've got a foot in both camps. Recently started using a trolley, a push, pull one and on occassion use my wifes Powakaddy.

I also carry a stand bag on occassion.

Certainly easier with a trolley.
 
I never thought I would see Chris using technology!!!

The course I play at has white lines in winter months, but I am looking forward to having the extra energy at the final few holes, carrying slightly over weight knackers me, also I worry about my back. That said I am picking up a pencil bag for practice and 9 holes.

Okay folks let me clear up a couple of points please.

I didn't start this post to ignite reaction nor was it directed at any trolley users one here that I have played with (Murph, Gjbike, Vis 17 are all brisk ;) ).

I was asked what I wanted for my birthday in a couple of weeks time and I considered a Powacaddy but when I thought about it I didnt see it as a time saving addition to my gear vault. I actually had a Freeway in 2007 when I had a sore hip but once that healed I got shot of it. Perhaps my gripe with the 'leccy trolley was about where drivers leave them.

When I came in from work it took me half an oor to read the comments.

You shouldnt be walking over greens with your bag either, you should be walking round the apron of the green with your bag not across it!

Anyway picking up on a point made earlier in this thread, I am a CAT1 golfer and usually use my trolly during medals as it DOES (fact) save me energy and helps concentration as well as allowing me a couple of extras in the bag. However on Saturday during the medal I carried due to not having time the night before to charge my battery and I had a great score!!!

Also picking up on yet another point brought up during this thread I happened to catch the tail end of the junior medal on Sunday where I couldnt believe my eyes at the amount of Tour Pro bags and electric trolleys on show, some wee guy had a bag he could have fitted himself into on a trolly. I found it amazing, I started with my grans old half set of clubs in a pencil bag!!!!

I carry during bounce games and use the trolley for medals/36 holers/team matches.

Best of both worlds! :D
 
Whats the difference between walking across the green with or without a bag? you will leave temporary indentations on the grass anyway. Watch the professionals, even their caddies in trainers walk on the greens with bags over their shoulders.
I think this thread topic was covered before and noone could come up with conclusive proof that walking on the greens whether 10 stone with a bag or 20 stones wthout made any difference.
 
There has not been a good, long, often deviating thread on here for a while and this has made good reading, heres to more of the same.

(Just to add my position, use a push trolley normally as have a bad back from 27 years in the front row of the scrum plus a very hilly course to contend with. Will use my wife's GoKart from time to time if feeling a bit knackered or, more usually, hungover).

Bag maybe faster but using a trolley is easier using a buggy is just darn right lazy. Whoops I used a buggy today and got caught up behind loads of people walking.
 
Reading back through the thread. I never actually said anything about trolleys.

I used to carry, but then I only ever played a very short course in an evening. I then started playing longer courses at the weekends. My knees are shot from falling off a roof on a TA exercise and 30 years of abuse from sailing. So I got a pull trolley. Even worse than carrying in my opinion. Which is why I now have ended up with a GoKart.

Yes I take the kitchen sink with me, waterproofs are always packed, a few spare gloves, two sports drinks, chocolate etc. But I do feel better at the end of a round than I used to. If you think my game tails off now, you should have seen it before!

If you want to carry that's your perogative. But I want to enjoy my game of golf and not have to yomp or tab my way around the course as if on some exercise. You enjoy how you want to play it, and let me enjoy how I want to play it.

Slow play is not about how you cart your kit around. It's about etiqutte and common sense.

After all it doesn't matter how you carry your clubs, we can all walk at a snails pace if inclined to do so.

Played it many a time (I live in Greetham and my dad was the first Captain and first Club President). Except for a couple of spots on The Valleys course I find Stoke Rochford more of a trek especially back up the hill on the 13th)
 
Blimey!! it's taken me 45mins to read that lot. interesting though, and by the way, I carry a pencil bag and pull a trolley, depends how I feel.
One of the reasons why I won't invest in an electric trolley is 'cos I can't be arsed with all the faffing about putting it all together and packing the car up after. Can't be doing with hassle, have enough of that at work!.

I have an electric trolley and have no intention of not using it but I will admit that at times it ends up the wrong side of the green.

This however is almost always the fault of the course being inadequately marked, white lines (even some of yours Homer) that have faded to nothing, and shotsavers that don't indicate the way to the next tee.

I do think though that more education is needed for the push/pull trolley users. Too many of them with their trolley inside the berm around a green.

Fix it with one simple rule for all - all trolleys, buggies and bags stay outside the berm at all times.
 
It's the noise that gets me. It's like being stalked by a Dalek.

On a serious note I'd much rather ban Buggies for those able to walk 18 holes.

Powakaddy's dont make a sound !

I absolutely agree that those people who choose to leave their bags/trolley or powakaddy at the wrong place are the ones that get everyone's back up, but thats hardly the norm.
I have the Digital Sport which I can send off 15yds to the next tee so dont accuse me of leaving my trolley in your way and slowing play down !

Who mentioned Greetham Valley ?? Ahhhhh......place of my very best round ever, ....2yrs ago, .....a 74 (+2) on the Valley Course.
I remember the 9 iron to the last, down the hill with water on each side, landed 3' above the pin and trickled down for a tap in birdie. :D
