Hi all,

Does anyone use an electric shaver/razor. I suffer from razor burn on my neck if I wet shave and have been told electric could help.

Anyone recommend a one or any I should stay clear of, I know they can get quite pricey.

Cheers.

I use a Boots own brand one, twin foil and similar to a Braun but a lot cheaper. Also you can buy replacement foils, always handy to have a spare.

I used to wet shave when a lot younger but had the same problem with sore neck. Went over to electric and haven't looked back. I will add that it takes a while for skin to get used to though. Make sure skin is completely dry as well.

I had the same problem, so I bought a decent electric razor. it was a braun cost £200+.I really couldn't get a close shave with it. i tried pre electric shaving lotion etc, but it really was no good.

I went back to wet shaving, using a gillette razor, shaving oil & shaving gel. This seems to prevent razor burn and I've not had a problem since.

Having to shave almost every day I have notied I get a rash when we change washing powder/capsules. We usually buy whatever brand is on offer in the supermarket but have now settled for one brand and this has stopped the rash.

I have a braun 390cc

im not overly impressed with the shave it gives (even tho it gets good reviews most places)

maybe its the way mine grows rather than the shaver

i still use it for everday type shave but if i want a good close one....give me a good old scrape with my mach3 anyday

I have a Philips (non moisturiser) - haven't wet shaved for 15 years - and I wouldn't go back to wet now. One tip I heard was to use some talcum powder on the face before dry shaving. It does help get a smooth shave.

I've never managed to find an electric shaver that doesn't irritate TBH.

I use a wet razor, shaving oil and an antibacterial soap post shave, followed by washing in cold water, moisturise and hey presto - no rash.

Good luck finding one, (the good ones seem far too expensive for me)

I have never found and electric shaver that gives a decent shave, especially under the chin. I have had a few decent ones but same problem. I do not always shave every day so went for a braun 3 series designed to shave close even when you do not shave every day but no use. I have gone back to disposable wet razers as the new multi blade ones clog up too easily, even with a non foaming gel, and Gilette blades are rediculously expensive.

I would recommend King of Shaves non foaming shave gel though, really does stop rashes.

I have used a cheap Remington Microscreen for years. Despite the ads they are never quite as close as a blade but then I would rather keep my face in one piece and cannot afford the time in the morning mopping up the blood and bleeding on my shirt (as my dad always used to).

I only shave once a week, much to the wifes annoyance as it's usually to go and play golf, but, I digress.

I use a 4 year old Braun something or other in beard trim mode first to get in down to a level that the twin foil part can part-take in. I then need to wet shave to get what's left off in the stubbon areas. It seems to work quite well.

When I needed to shave everyday, I'd electric it for 3 days and then wet shave on the 3rd or 4th day.

I daren't try a Phil-I-Shave, as I have a small raised mole on my chin, and I'm worried that it would just slice it.

Its the cream that gives you the rash. You need to have a play with all the brands. Both gels, creams and foams.
What sort of razor do you use? I use to have the same issue. I moved to a cream from the body shop and a Merkur futur razor. I'm not a fan of being clean shaven but when I do I no longer get shaver rash.

I tend to get a rash regardless but prefer to persevere with a wet shave as my phillips never seems to get a very close shave. I use king of shaves sensitive oil, shave, rinse with a good face cleanser in the shower, and moisturise after. I try and only shave a couple of times a week unless I have candidates to see or meetings to go to

If you shave every day then they are a good option however if you don't then you will not get a close enough shave and they flipping hurt on longer stubble.

I have always suffered with Razor Burn, so much I never shaved down to my skin for 9 years.

I find that if you try to strech you skin too tight it causes the hairs to push out, then when you relax the skin the sharp hair below irritates the inside surface of the skin.

See the link below, and go easy when you shave. Make sure you use unperfumed alcohol free moisturisers straight after shaving, also use pre shave conditioner. I started shaving every 3rd day, then every other day, still not confident to shave every day.

Its worth spending the money on a decent razor, dont press too hard, keep it vey clean and keep your skin moisturised.

You will probably struggle to find an electric razor no matter how expensive that shaves as good as a wet shave.

I have tried electric razors but just cannot get on with them. The Missus bought me a nice Phillishave one last year for Christmas, tried it a few times but it now sits in the bedroom gathering dust.
Much prefer wet shaving.
I have sensitive skin too so only shave every other day unless it's absolutely necessary.

I've been using a Panasonic one for the last few months and quite like it. Your skin has to be dry to get a good shave with an electric razor, so do it before you get a wash etc

Most irritation when wet shaving is caused by the cream, you don't need shaving cream, it's a total con. To get a good wet shave you just need clean skin and hot water, I hadn't used shaving cream for a couple of years before switching to electric for convenience
