all I get when I try to link from Photobucket is invalid URL or invalid file no matter what link I take from photobucket.
maybe theres other reasons but thats all it states which isnt helping when I try to figure out whats wrong.
Any ideas or a better way to change avatars easily?

Assuming the image is within the limits stated on the 'Edit Avatar' page (80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB) then a clean URL should work.

Failing that, grab the image from Photobucket, drop it on your Desktop, then upload from there. ;)

if its hosted elsewhere what difference does it make if its not 80x80 or 19.5kb?

doesnt answer the question TFc as to why it just states invalid file or invalid url, there needs to be some more detail so the user can adjust

Avatars and profile images aren't hosted elsewhere, they are 'imported' and hosted on the server here. Therefore, as stated on the relevant edit pages, they should comply with the size restrictions stated. The answer provided a means to achieve the same end result.

As to why it's being identified as an invalid file, other than the size issues, I would need to see the image/file/URL to comment.

ok didnt realise they were imported, I assumed (wrongly) that as it was asking for a URL it was linking back to the photobucket image. I see its actually 100x100 so I'll download to my pc and minimize with MS image viewer and see how it goes
Thanks
