I purchased an Adams rescue club on Ebay from a first time seller a few days ago. The "buy it now" price was £60 + £6.50 postage - and, after the seller set up his bank for payment, I paid. Since then he has upped the post and packing to £13 and appears to have sent a revised invoice for £73.

I am not a regular Ebay user but surely the £66.50 was the correct price, and I paid that, so any idea what to do next?

Thanks

Have you emailed to ask why he upped it? That's why I never buy from anyone with low feedback levels. Lots of dodgy people out there. Your always covered by PayPal anyway but he can't add money on once you have already used the but it now.

No I havnt asked yet but will if he doeswn't contact me soon. I just wanted to be sure he couldnt do what he has done. I wouldnt usually by from a newbie but everyone has a first sale or purchase.

I'd email him first, don't wait for him to contact you. He's definitely wrong in changing after. When you agree to buy something on eBay, your entering a contract and have purchase it for the advertised price. Hope you get it sorted for the original amount.

The other problem you may encounter is a refunded PayPal payment and then no contact as he's decided he's not charged enough.
Don't see the issue with postage it costs £5.50 standard parcels to send a club so £6.50 is ample to cover his costs.
Hope he comes good to his word.

Thanks Jon. Have sent him a message now just asking for confirmation of postage

Just re reading the OP but concerned about "once he set up his bank I paid" PayPal I hope!

what did he advertise the postage as ? next day courier or something?

My first few sales were like this, I advertised premium postage but only priced for standard royal mail. So had to contact the buyers and let them know that £6 would only get them standard postage and not the premium I had stated.

hopefully a genuine mistake on his part

His first sale and he seemed unsure of the poceedure. I said that he needed to set up a paypal account and he did and then I paid into it. I wonder if he just double clicked on the postage at some stage in his process? I havn't done a sale so I dont know the exact proceedures from that side. I have no reason to think that he is not genuine

I didn't think you could change an invoice once it's been paid, through PayPal, they are the same company now and systems linked.
You can offer an alternative postage cost and leave it for buyer to choose.

I'm new to evilbay, first couple of sales I underestimated the postage for some clubs so I took the hit and sent for nearly double what I quoted, my fault so why should I go back and charge the buyer more?

sounds like he's nickle and diming, plus doing it underhand!! At the very least he should have emailed you and asked if you mind paying the proper costs as he got it wrong, doing it his 'sneaky' way doesn't bode well

Think the seller is maybe being a little naive... Risking a negative or neutral feedback on your first sale... Reason why I advise new sellers to cut their teeth on something straightforward like a DVD...

I've just had a message saying that he is sending the club off this morning on a faster delivery. He hasn't asked for any more money and I suspect it was just a mix up on his part as a new seller. Thanks guys for your input
