I've always had a problem with early extention, however this link from Peter Finch seems to have helped.

I've only literally started doing the practice drills, however at the range today I hit some lovely shots with an 8 iron. The flight was a draw with a crisp compression sound.

This drill may be helpful to others as well.

Has anyone else had issues with early extention, and noticed an improvement in their strikes/game once implemented ?

Cheers

I just really try and focus on keeping the right heel planted until very near impact and when it does move roll it over rather than standing up onto the toe

Lexi thomson stands up at impact due to early extension. Doesnt seem to do her much harm. Bombs it 290 odd, and hitting 6 irons 200 odd. May be its the future?

couple of things for folks (those interested) to consider as don't want to see folks get misled by what EE really is

the issue of early extension in the downswing that's a problem for so many index players can start to happen more or less straight from the moment of transition or any moment from there though tends to be more or less complete as a movement before or as the shaft arrives at around the last horizontal with ground position (delivery position or P6) - as to why it got the tag early extension
{some folks can have even started to lose posture & straighten up in the backswing losing the pelvic angle (this though not really known as EE}

but whenever in downswing EE actually starts it's always accompanied by the body (hips/glutes/core) moving outwards to get nearer to the ball target line & most times is also accompanied by the hips still being a ways too square to the ball target line into/at impact - which also limits true upper body rotation through the swing motion - the lead hip/glute have not cleared leftfield the hands/arms/club have not been able to move leftfield & extend in the arc of the swing motion

every real good swing motion/good strike & a big part of where club acceleration comes from is in the hips/mid torso extending upwards through the contact impact area as the legs (lead leg in particular) push up against the ground (ground force reaction)
but also crucially in a good swing motion while doing this the lead hip/glute clear leftfield out of the way & the hips clearing allow optimum upper body rotation - so crucially the hips/glutes/core have not moved outwards to get nearer to the ball target line (which is what happens in EE)

some Tour players with a tad more upright swing motions who are properly utilizing ground force reaction & maybes couple of the most prominent in this being Lexi & Bubba (though all do this) - but what they are very definitely not doing is early extension that gives so many index players real problems in achieving sound impact & shot results
