What's wrong with that? As long as you bid what you think it's worth to you I don't see how it is unfair.Incidetally, I got up in the middle of the night yesterday to do exactly that as the item was in the USA and the end time was 5am! (I got it though)

It may be totally underhanded, but ebay snipers make sure (unless their is a other sniper with a higher bid) you win. TBH if i want something badly, I use them without thought.

Use "bidnabber" or something similar. Just enter how much you want to go up to and leave it to do it's work.

I work out what it's worth to me, stick that price in (an hour or two to go) and see what happens.

I have had a few items lately that have always seemed to just jump up a few mins after i have bid. lo and behold, when i havent won i get the old second chance offer. Its obvious that people are using mates to bid on their own items.

HID wanted an exercise bike and we found what we wanted on Ebay. Top amount we wanted to pay was £70 so I bid £70.01. Good job too as someone else was bidding and kept getting closer and closer to £70. Eventually, with the last bid they bid £70. But as I'd bid a penny more I won it. Bet they were a bit miffed....

Thats me, have two windows open, count down and press confirm. Got a near new Nike Dymo 2009 driver for £78 that way. Tried it, nea gid, sold it for 90. Cant be bad eh.
