Hi guys,
This post should get a few different view's.

A few Saturdays ago I went to my club for a few beers, while there our match and handicap guy was already there throwing the drink into him. I stayed for 2 pints then went home.
I was home for a couple of hours and then went back again, the guy was still there. The banter was good at the start but the more we drank the lower we go and I'm not just talking about the 2 of us. The bar was pretty much busy. Unfortunately the Lady Captain was in the other part of the club house. She noticed the 2 of us have a few what looked like to her heated words. We didnt notice that she was making a speach so we kept on chatting and we are meant to have been a bit loud. The barmaid asked us to keep the noise down. Well try telling 2 drunk guys to be quiet. Anyway we've been called to appear infront of the disaplinary comittee which we did last night so we're awaiting the out come.
Do any of you have any thoughts on this? I cant wait to hear all the replys. I'd say we're looking 2 - 4 months barred!!!!! :D

There's a time and a place clubchamp. If you want to go on the lash perhaps the golf club isn't the best place?
The Golf clubhouse is one of the last bastions of etiquette, decorum and standards left in the UK, we don't want it turned into just another loud raucous pub, thankyou.

I don't know about a ban - seems a bit draconian unless your behaviour is a frequent occurence?
As a punishment I reckon you should have to caddy for the lady captain for at least 5 rounds!

I'm with you on this one BM.

I belong to a quite exclusive private members club and you simply DON'T see people getting ratted and making @rses of themselves in there.

If I am going for a night on the sherberts I head down to the pub I frequent regularly or have a crawl around Rochester. My club is reserved for a nice dinner, a civilised drink or a business meeting.

It's why most clubs have a "spike bar" for the drinkers and a lounge for the more civil side of proceedings.

No harm in having a bit of fun as long as it doesen't interfere with the purpose of the clubhouse, I suppose, but a ban would be harsh unless you're making a habit of it, Clubchamp.

You have let the forum down, the club down but most of all yourself!!

Good stuff!!

You should have hit the town mate instead of upsetting the Ladies captain, time for you to stand up like naughty school boys and take your punishment.

i think that any where that serves drink should expect it, maybe the timing was off but with any sport there is always an alcohol factor so why should golf be any different.

Just next time make sure theres no women around lol

na u shudnt have a ban that would be pretty harsh for first offence.

watch this space guys we've found out that the barmaid has used a witness without his consent and told a different story from what happened. she has told a lie!!!! So fingers crossed. Unfortunately it's not my 1st time, but it is his 1st time. He is match and handicap and the worse bit is that I only took over the juniors last Wednesday, so lordy lordy knows whats going to happen. Sounds like you have crossed the line of proper behaviour for a golf club Champ07, and you must accept the consequences, especially since it it your second offence.

I don't like the idea of the barmaid giving false evidence though.

Clubchamp,

Did you 'keep shtuum' or 'sing like a canary' when they applied the heat?

What about the press? Local headline reads ... "Local drunkard in charge of junior golfers in drunken argument shenanigans shouts down Lady Captain shock"... or something equally sensational.

I've got all sorts of images going through my head...
2 rather sheepish looking adult males heads hung low in shame, a revenge-seeking bitter lady captain, the Barmaid twitching like a trigger-happy executioner ready to do her worst and a panel of 3 stony faced committee disciplinarians, one an ex-copper most likely.

Who has the real say here...is there a leader of this disciplinary committee? - if so who is he and is he receptive to 'brown envelopes' or a nice bottle of Bushmills as a pay-off? You've gotta play dirty..blackmail, intimidation...whatever it takes.

Can't wait to find out what happens next!

Anyway good luck, Hope it goes well for you, we've all been there in one way or another!

If it's anything like most clubs you'll likely only get a ticking off unless you have committed any of the following offences;-

1 Cheating
2 Punching a Comittee member
3 Shagging the Captain's wife
4 Moaning to the greenkeeper about the hollow tining

Surely it is the responsibility of the bar maid to stop serving gentlemen who are the worse for wear? I believe this is the case with pubs, and as such, she is partly responsible.

Sounds pretty daft to me, they served you and him the amount and didnt mind taking the cash. Also for the etiquette, nothing like the old elitists drink driving as per.

Its the law!! its illegal to serve alcohol to anybody heavily under the influence. I worked in a bar in my student years and this was one of the first rules we had to try and follow. Bit hard working in Twickenham on rugby days!

Can't be easy, some of us when totally blotto are quite coherent but our legs go a different way from the rest of us whereas others are rock steady on their feet but can only speak absolute gibberish.

Some quite good points above, particularly the club barstaff happily taking the money then acting offended when punters get drunk! Hello!

Just been looking around the internet to see if it was the law or my boss not wanting drunks in his pub, seems to be a lot of contrasting information.

http://legallad.quickanddirtytips.com/legal-lad.aspx

You could most definitely claim it was the bartenders fault for serving you alcohol! might get you off the hook a bit if you claim you could not have been that drunk if you continued to be served alcohol?

Well guys the spanner hasn't went in the works as yet but we have received the bad news. As from today we're barred form all, club house and course, for 2 months. We have to write a groveling letter to the bar maid. and 3rdly we have to resign from council. Now what u all think of that?

But wait there's more..........The lies haven't came to light yet. So we'll wait and see what happens whenever the guy spills the beans on her......
