Some of our bunkers are being re-built and are lined and marked GUR.

From tomorrow can the "nearest point of relief" still be to the side of the bunker or do you need to drop behind keeping a straight line between where the ball lay and the hole?

My thoughts are that this is still the case as you can still drop to the side of a path.

Thanks.

If the whole bunker is GUR, you are taking relief from GUR in the general area not from GUR in a bunker and so 16.1b applies. You establish the nearest point of complete relief which could be to the side of the bunker or behind it and your relief area is a club-length from that point not nearer the hole. There is no back on the line relief from GUR in the general area. The same applies to relief from an obstruction like a path.
