I went golfing today it was very cold was 0 Celsius / 1 Celsius at most
I was driving the ball in that temp on fairways that need cutting and was driving the ball 230 - 240 yards

How far do you think id be driving the ball in a fairly warm day on the best fairways?

Cheers

Looks about right to me. One other thing to consider is how hard your fairways get in the summer. My distances vary by 10 yards in the summer depending on how hard the fairways get. Last summer was rubbish with only about 10 yards of run but when the fairways are baked hard I get about 20 yards on the flat.

Sounds reasonable

Very.

It's unlikely your fairways will be cut to TV standards, sometimes you'll sweetspot one and get a good bounce and maybe challenge the 300yrd mark but in general 270 would be a good hit. Probably carry 245yds. Just a guesstimate based on my own driving right now which is about the same as yours (with swingspeed 108mph).

With run? 270-280. (probably closer to 270 most of the time than 280)

Yeah sounds about right to me. In theory you're only supposed to lose approx 20 yards in winter at that sort of yardage (less with a lower clubhead speed). But I find it to be more like 30-35 yards given your muscles are a bit warmer so you tend to gain a little clubhead speed, that along with all the other factors: air temp/density, ball compression & soft fairways soon adds up to quite a loss of yardage.

Read the posts twice now and no one has challenged the OPs ability to actually hit those yardages.... you lot are slacking!! :D

Indeed! B+, must try harder :ears:

I have found some distance since moving to a driver and shaft that is more suited to my swing. Our first plays up hill, all the way to the hole. We have a fairway bunker that is in play at a shade under 200 yards, again all up hill.

I'm now carrying this trap by a good 20 yards, but with the fairways being as they are, the ball is either plugging or getting little/o roll.

I think in the summer I'll be up around 240 yards max! very jealous if you're hitting that now

My course fairways no where near tv standards lol, In the summer its Ok but with no rain the fairways harden up
So hopefully with the hot weather and more run on the ball i hope its around 270 yards is that will do me

Having recently returned from the NZ summer was going to be interested to see how my distances related to the UK winter.
Played 9 holes last Friday around 1 degree and Driver would be 210 to 220 compared to 270 280 in NZ and irons where a good 3 clubs shorter .

The pros on TV are of course the best golfers but with the high temps they play in the super short fairways then play on
The 300 yards drives still very impressive but dont impress me as much, cause i know im not a million miles behind that,
Well on the distance part anyway

Have you tried warming your balls !! :ooo:

There was a letter in the 'rules' section a few magazines ago asking about keeping a ball in your pocket and producing it for the next hole as it is nicely warmed - it legal provided you declare it to be in play of course.

I have done this a few times - made no difference whatsoever - lol - but it does wind up my playing partner a bit so is good for the banter.....I'll put this nice and warm Srixon in play now that you have duffed your ice cold one!!

He insists its cheating or at least outside the spirit of the game - all in a friendly way just a bit of ongoing banter / wind up we have going, keeps the game sociable on the cold winter days - lol.

What can i say - I am easily amused!

If you use those handwarmer thingies, don't put your ball in the same pocket as them as I'm pretty sure that is considered outside of the rules.
Something to be aware of.

I read an interesting article on warming golf balls. It suggested that putting a ball in your pocket would not make any difference as golf balls absorb heat slowly. It suggested the best thing is to leave them next to the hot water tank over night and they will warm up and retain the heat longer.
