Driving Distances

Our place is quite deceptive.

Yesterday we were getting nearly 260 with our 3 woods. This was a combination of fast draining ground and a frozen layer under the fairway.

I doubt there will be a huge difference in distances off the tee when the summer comes, I just expect the greens to be rock hard and need running into all the time :(

I dont believe anyone who claims to carry the ball over 240 yards on a regular basis unless I see it. Most struggle to carry 200 but for some reason feel they are inadequate if they own up to it.

We can all hit one now and then that comes out the screws with optimum spin and launch conditions that carries 270 yards, you cannot claim this as your average though.

Some can do it but in reality how many club players?

You are right most club golfers do not average a carry of 240 yards but there are some that do. There are probably 4 or 5 at my club who do it, me included. Yes I've been on Trackman, Flightscope & Foresight GC2 on many occasions. I've got a PDF of my last driver fitting, average ball speed was 167.5mph with a couple of really weak strikes around the 155mph mark & the best was 172.7mph. I don't believe the carry numbers it spat out though as I supposedly averaged 291 yards of carry which I just dont, it had my best carry at 316 yards which again I do not believe. This was on a Foresight so not 100% accurate but good enough for the ball speed/spin rates & launch angles.

Totally agree with this, the yardage I quoted wa including a fair bit of roll on summer fairways, I wish I could carry a driver 255yards.

I've only in the time I've been playing since 2011 played with 2 guys that can carry it more that 250yards. 1st one is a +4 handicapper who played in last years British am, 2nd was in the same round as first lad he was a young guy off +2 who is this year going to try for euro pro tour. So they were both elite players far removed from regular club players.

I've played with a few club pro's they were all surpremely accurate with good short games but don't think one of them has got it out past 260yards with exception of the odd one from the screws.

Thing is as soon as you see the word distance In a thread you know the egos come out and todgers start getting measured.

I don't actually know how far I drive the ball. It's further than most I play with, but shorter than some. But at 32 I'm younger and fitter than most of the blokes I play with at my course so you'd expect that.

Those who are shorter than me are of course all weaklings, and those who are longer are all monsters and genetic freaks. Same as in the gym, lift less = weakling, lift more = freak :D
