Those of you who use SS2 - or any other stat program - do you, when recording your driving distances, use the same hole(s), decide beforehand which you are going to measure, or choose a good one!?

I've been using the same 2 holes so far but wondered what others do.

As tempting as it is, don't just use the good ones. I'd say either select a couple of holes before teeing off or use the same holes.

I'm sure that if we did it as and when we do hit a great tee shot, it would screw the average somewhat.

It's probably the least used stat that I record. But I rarely use my driver at the moment.

(That was an unofficial answer, just based on how I've used it!) I'm sure Andy will be along to explain all.

I never bother. I didn't have SC when I started and to be honest I usually forget to press the measure button. The only time I ever think about it is if I really tank one and think "I'll measure that". Normally sadly disappointed when I do as its normally 260 maxed out.

It's the one statistic I'm not bothered about. I'd rather read about how many fairways I've hit (or not as seems to be the case )

select a couple of holes before teeing off.

This is what I do. Decide which holes to use before the round and obviously don't use holes where you're laying up with a 4 iron if you're going to make use of this stat. (unless that's what you tee off with all the time)

I think generally this is one of the most unimportant stats though x

Absolutely hit one out of the screws on Friday, great strike, great swing, really felt the shaft whip through. Thought, I'll measure that, that is long.

238.

Flippin heck.

Do the same as Homer, and ignore Driving distance.

More(much more)important is greens in reg.and number of putts.
Also fairways hit.Rather be on the fairway 60% of the time, than 40% a further 20 yards on.
At least on my track :D

I think when they are working out the averages off the tour stats they measure one hole into and the other downwind and take the average so I guess if you are going to measure you'd need to find two on your course that run in opposite directions

I agree with that.

2 holes chosen before you start, in opposite directions, where you'll be hitting a full blooded driver.

It's way down the list of important stats such as GIR.

Measuring: as previously said it's suppoed to be 2 non-par 3 holes (running in opposite directions) chosen at random before the round.

I personally don't use it; as Murph said, you can nail a cracker and it turns out to be 230yds because the ground is soaking and you got 0 yds run. You can also duff a "Sally Gunnell" on a dry, downhill fairway and get 300yds out of it.

It's not an exact stat due to other variable. Fairways hit and GIR are both exact: you either hit the fairway or you didn't. You either hit the green in (par -2) or you didn't. No debate. No external variables.

I don't bother with the driving distances.

You can't really compare them to what SS2 has as it's handicap standards because we're all off different handicaps for different reasons.

Also, different days bring different conditions so you're comparing: wind with one day against on another, wet or dry, driver or 3 wood etc etc.

Also you have to remember to record the distance.
