I have found that I hit the driver straighter and longer if I move my right foot back a few inches at address, so my stance at address is closed. It seems to give my hands room to come back inside and the swing feels ...."unblocked"..... is the best way to describe it.

What might that tell me about my 'normal' swing? I'm happy if it works, but Id also like to acquire a classic swing, just because I'm a bit of a nerd!

What is the shape of your shot when you stand with your feet in line. Surly that will tell you more about your normal swing ?

If your normal shot is a fade, then you probably swing out to in.
So your swing path is say 10 yards left of your target.
When you draw your right foot back, you are actually changing your aim to 10 yards right of the target.
That means your swing path although still 10 yards left of your (new) aim is now straight.
Hope that makes sense
