I give it a go at the range from time to time, but the risk-reward ratio is too high on a course/playing setting for me. I'd rather go with my 3w

Smange on here hits a fairly tidy shot with driver from the deck using his G10. Got a new driver now so be interesting to see if he still does it. The height he gets with it was what amazed me.
I've also played with a older golfer and during the round he was hitting it further off the deck than the tee.

About the only time I ever consider it! Has been known to work really well, but likely to go as far right as it goes forward! A regular consideration (normally rejected!) on 2 or 3 holes frequently enough!

If you have a 12 degree driver which has the same loft as an old 3 wood.......why not?
I find the sweetspot too high up on the modern drivers to be useful and consistent

Tried it once. Topped it.
So that's a no to Pin-seeker's question. To be honest I've tried it a handful of times and the outcome far worse than had I laid up with a five wood or hybrid and pitched on. Not a shot I'll be taking on again

Used to play it the odd time at lee park. Have done so at links courses too. I like the ground to be bone dry so it can take the steep impact.
