Driver etc distances

I'm sure we all hear the stories of golfers bragging about how far they hit their driver, 3 wood etc. I was talking to a good friend of mine about it, he works on the Tour with several well known Tour players. He sent me the following attachment which comes from Trackman with details of the Tour averages, it makes interesting reading..

Do they not know about the latest TM driver that's out right now!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....there are a lot of people on here who claim distances that are absolute nonsense.

The most accurate way to measure your drives is using Google earth, there is a ruler facility under the Tools option. Locate your home course and measure to where one of your drives usually finishes. I've played with plenty of people that consider me a fairly long hitter but using google I've measured my average drives around the 250 mark which is anything but long.

I think a few of these so called 'big boys' could be in for a bit of a shock

You would probably find that, if all amateurs were totally honest about their driving distances, that 250yds isn't too shabby at all!

Slime.

Very true.

What's always interesting with these (I've seen this, or a similar, table before) is lots of people claim to hit driver tour distances but it is rare to find the same people claiming to carry a 7 iron 175 yards......

I'm not a big hitter but, like everyone, can catch the odd freak one that goes a fair way.

that does make me wonder with people at times. I think looking at someone's 7i distance gives a good indicator to their total driving distance. If you only hit it 150 then you are no where near generating enough Clubhead speed to get past 250, but they still think they hit it out towards 280.
