Driver advice

Hi folks,

I'm currently looking to get my first 'brand new' driver.
I have always used a hand me down Taylormade R7 which had the shaft length altered to approx 44.5".

I have been looking around and trying a couple of drivers and i'm quite taken by the Taylormade Burner Superfast 2.0 model, partially due to the size of the sweetspot, low COG etc.

My main concern would be transitioning from the shorter shaft length to the 46.5" shaft on this club.

If I decide to go for this club, would it be worth having the club ordered in with a shorter shaft?

Any advice appreciated.

Good question. If you are concerned, I'm sure your club pro could shorten whatever you buy (not all makes and models are as long as TM) without any problem or it affecting the playability

If you do get it. Keep it the standard length. See how you get on with it first. Also try it gripping down the shaft at the length you would have it made to. See which is best for you. If the shorter length it will only take a minute to shorten and regrip.

I actually phoned American Golf today and they informed me that the shaft is in fact 45.5" instead of the 46.5" I had previouslythought.

Going through for a swing tomorrow morning in their shot centre thing to see how I get on.

they are talking out thier backsides it's 46.5" and the shaft is pants anyway.
Do yourself a favour and pick up a supertri or R9 much better driver IMO

Yup the Standard xcon matrix shafts are longer, you can grip down a tad and it will still go rightly matey.

My advice is find a head you like then go get custom fitted for the shaft, most stock shafts are going to be wrong for you unless you are very lucky.

In my opinion the stock shafts are all about marketing rather than playability, so the club can be claimed as longer without taking much else into consideration.

I had a Ping stock shaft in my G15 and hit about 4 fairways a round. Got custom fitted for a shaft and started MISSING 4 faiways a round. Played 18 holes charity day with the club champ and he declared me to be the most boring driver of the ball, not long, not interesting, just down the middle every time
