I think one of the most annoying things in golf is to do the hard bit then make a mess of the easy bit.

On Sunday I had a really nasty little shot from a scruffy lie under a tree over a bunker to the flag which was about 30 yards away. Hit it really crisply with my gap wedge, lots of spin, over the bunker and the ball checks up about 4 feet from the hole. Superb.

I then missed the putt. :(

Might as well have duffed the chip to the front edge of the green and 2 putted. Still really annoyed about it.

Just wondered if anyone else had any similar experiences over the weekend where they played a great shot then didn't make the most of it?

I love it when you hit two superb shots to get close to a difficult, long par 4 in 2 and then take 4 more shots to cover the other 15 yards
That always makes me smile
:( :( :(

Better still, hit 3 good shots on a par 5 where you're not shotting and then blob it by 4 putting.
That always goes down well

Yeh, open 4BBB at Dodgers place yesterday, The Hirsel. Fires my drive right round the corner at the first, 60 yards to the pin........shank :o

Done similar yesterday at our last not cool!

This is my speciality! :D

Had a horror show of a round in the wind yesterday and threw so many silly shots away. Exhibit 1 (of many) was a good drive taken off line by the wind and ended up under some thick trees. I punched a lovely 4 iron shot through a gap back into play leaving me with an 'easy' wedge onto the green. Managed to shank the ball back into the trees lining the green.

Exhibit 2 was on the 14th, stroke index 3, so 2 shots to take advantage of. Nice drive, nice 7 iron to just off the front of the green. Thinned my 1st wedge through the back, duffed the next one and 2 putted for a 6.

The worst though was the 10th ( SI 1). Drive went high and left and my ball was against a thick bush. Silly Achilles thought he could perform a miracle and get the ball out. Proceeded to double hit the thing and get the ball forward about 2 feet. Score on that hole....11. :o

Why I didn't declare it unplayable and take a penalty drop to get a stance etc, I still have no idea. Would've probably saved me 4 shots. :D

On the plus side, my tan got topped up a bit when the sun came out!

I did it in reverse Saturday. Did the hard bit after stuffing up the easy bit.

Our 12th is only 310, with quite a wide fairway so I normally give it a lash to see how close I can get. On Saturday there was a prize for nearest to the pin in 2.

Walking up the fairway we could see the marker was about 6' away from the flag.
My partner went first and his ball finished about 2' away. Happy days.

My turn. Played it exactly as I planned, landed about 15' short and rolled up to the hole, finishing about 3" away.

After I'd finished laughing and giving it "ner ner nerner ner" to my partner, he reminded me that I'd played 4 because my first drive disappeared OOB right and I was 3 off the tee.

Oops :o
