I believe the reason for closing the course all winter was to allow maintenance work to be done over the winter in order that it may be open year round from this point on. Not sure how often you visit this part of the world delc but I live within 10 miles of Trumpy and most of the time during the winter you wouldn't want to bother anyway.

Hard frosts and chucking down rain are the norm mate.

Theres something special about playing Golf in Scotland and this course for me doesn't fit in with that.
Im sure Theres not shortage of Golfers willing to empty their pockets to play there, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't play it if it was £20 a round never mind £320.

My feelings exactly - as I said in my first post , it looks like they are trying to manufacture a special course that normally takes a hundred years to build up.

Having the yank Buffon involved throwing his weight around and the extortionate fees just sum it up. It does look beautiful in pics but will never have a desire to play it.

According to their website, it will be closing again on November 14th 2014. Is it like The Grove near Watford (host to the 2006 WGC Amex Championship, won by Tiger Woods) which has no members and doesn't want any? The World's most expensive Pay and Play!

Ive said the same and I get it a wee bit cheaper for having an AB postcode. My old man played it on a freebee though and he's not easily impressed by golf courses but he said it was different class

Oh I have no doubt it's stunning to play - it will need to be to justify those costs. But no chance would I ever pay that much to play any course

Just had a look at the website and the local resident rates have been slashed this year. Think it was only something like 10% off last year, it's about 40% now.

Yeah I see they are closing again in November next year but if it's a pay and play then there's really no issue, not like they are ripping off members.

What's wrong with the Grove not wanting members ?

Nothing really as it's their course, and there are plenty of suckers out there who will pay a small fortune to play on a 'Championship' course trodden by T. Woods and Co. Actually their cheapest off-peak green fee is £95, so not too bad for around London I suppose. Still almost a single persons weekly State Old Age Pension though!

Grove do green fees cheaper than £95 for package deals - just as Woburn do and also Brocket Hall and also Stoke Park - they are all top quality courses and worth their fee. Should everything be tailored to the Pension level or something ?

They must expect a lot of people playing it to enable them to break even over the year

He'll just be trying to appeal to us miserable Aberdonians. I don't think it'll ever ever make any money, in fact I can actually see it being closed within 10-15 years if he doesn't get a major competition on it.

£75 in October is actually £25 cheaper than Royal Aberdeen. It's an unbelievable track though. Get the feeling the pro's might rip it up in the Scottish open though unless the wind blows big time.

Will it get the Scottish Open ? Will need to find big sponsorship or fund it himself

Was talking re Royal Aberdeen about the Scottish Open.

Eh, yeah, I can see him getting the Scottish Open at Trump. I think it's only a 1 year deal with Royal Aberdeen. Really looking forward to it, Royal Aberdeen is about a drive, 3 wood and wedge from my front door.

I used to live up the road in the 80's in Buchan :) - only ever played golf in that area once at Cruden bay - looking back now I wish I played golf more often as a kid

Never played Cruden Bay. I often think the North is under-rated for golf. Moray, Elgin, Nairn, Cruden Bay, Murcar, Buckpool, Royal Aberdeen, all outstanding tracks, people go on about fife and and angus but I think the North East is as good, if not better.

I think I played Forres and Nairn in the mid 90's when we had a little golf comp when I was at Benbecula - remember one of them was a stunning course - the first was an elevated tee played down to a great hole

Castle Stuart also close from mid November to end of March each year,

These are visited courses and who in there right mind would visit the north of Scotland to play in winter???

Who ever it was asking about the 1st hole being downhill from a raised tee is Forres.. Which is a nice enough course but no different to a lot of parkland courses anywhere in the country ..

Possibly, as at least a third of active golfers seem to be pensioners these days! :)
