Does your club still operate a roll-up?

Hi
Am putting together more explainer pieces. One is whether the roll-up still happens in your club? Obviously a lot of booking procedures have changed in the past few years so trying to gather if roll-ups happen anywhere these days, cheers

Yes there are roll-ups at my club. Tend to be early morning, but there is also a smaller one on the Saturday afternoon. They are run by members rather than by the club itself though.

At my old club the roll ups (of which there were 2, Wednesday and Sunday) were by invitation only and basically insured that the great and the good of the club got to play with their mates and invited others at the time they wanted without waiting (pre tee booking systems).

We have swindles on a Saturday and Sunday, but these aren't roll ups, as there's a limited number of tee times, so the organisers (members) tend to try and get a feel for who's playing by asking all swindlers in their group to see who wants to play.
We don't have any roll up tee times allocated for that purpose. Book a tee time in advance or risk visitors getting it within 7 days, including weekends!

The bigger roll ups have block tee times reserved for them by the pro shop and members sign up online, pro shop can then release times that aren’t needed. The smaller ones (usually evening 9 hole ones) members of the group grab 3 or 4 times individually, then on the day roll call is done via WhatsApp and names added to the bookings, and unneeded times released.

Don’t have any club roll ups and we never really did - all organised by individuals

Those same rolls Ups are still active now using the tee times

18 different roll ups throughout the week....We are a "rock up and play" club apart from Tuesday and Sunday mornings and competition days when BRS is used..
Quite frankly, if you don't want to play in a roll up, its a massive PITA working around them all.

We "kind of" have a few. Nothing official and organized by the club though. One of my last clubs had a few set (blocked out times) times during the week, an hour slot on Wed morning for a big group of seniors (up to 30) and an early Sunday morning small group. They block out so many times already with visiting groups/comps/all day "business days" etc, I don't see why it would be an issue to block out a few more times for a few roll ups that have a guaranteed amount of people who play and have supported the club for years.

We have several throughout the week, where the ClubV1 booking app has slots ruled out to accomodate. Within a few of the roll ups they have Whatsapp groups where any regulars can advise if they are unable to play that day.

The club itself has never organised one but we do have a lot of optional medals.

There are a fair few roll ups organised by the members themselves but it tends to be who you know to get in to one since we went to all booked tee times.

member organised ones
4-5 Saturdays
3 on Sundays
2-3 Mondays
2 Tuesdays
2-3 Wednesdays
2-3 Thursdays
3 Fridays

At my new club no, at my previous club yes. They didn't have tee bookings before 9 so there were 2 roll up groups. Think there was one midweek too. It's a good way to get new members to meet people.

Yes we still have roll ups.

We have a hybrid booking model. No bookable tee times on Mondays and Wednesdays. Spookily, those are Senior's Roll Up days!

A vote in favour of retaining a booking system every day, was ignored by the "powers that be!" So, no booking allowed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.

No, and one of the disadvantages of booked tee times. We have asked the club to give us a roll up slot but no luck so far.:(

Saw a mate at North Hants playing in a roll up and the banter in the group reminded us of what we are missing.

We have 7-day all-day booking which we did not have pre-Covid, but members still cope with organising themselves into their pre-Covid roll-ups using social media.
