I have just received my May issue of GM, containing the inevitable scratch card type competition which many magazines are containing these days. Does anyone ever bother to scratch off the answers to the stupidly easy questions and then spend £9.00 ringing or texting with the results? I know that this sort of advertising gives income to GM and keeps the price of the magazine down, but I for one would be willing to pay a little extra to do away with these tricky means of advertising their competition in the hope that people will not read the small print. Wouldn't it be nice if whatever department is involved in GM told these people that 'these sort of things are not for our readers'?

Hang on, have I been sold a pup or duped in some way, I have only just subscribed, I havent got any balls promoted to encourage subscription and now FOR GODS SAKE! I find I didnt even get a bloomin scratch card! What is this world comming to? :DI think! :D

Maybe in an ideal world but in the current economic climate every penny counts. MikeH has already explained the gate fold covers and the revenue it brings in but I'm glad GM isn't filled with as many adverts as most others. Money is tight in the magazine world with paper and printing costs rising etc so extra revenue like these cards is a necessary evil. I think a good example of the crunch is the fact that a number of GM staff went to Augusta last year and there is only one lucky soul making the trip this year.

I think Mike and the gang are doing a good job in the current climate and continue to produce a quality magazine. I know it went up recently but I think I'm right in saying it was the first rise in about 9-12 months.

It doesnt bother me but then again I think they are a waste of resources. perhaps gm should come every month without the plastic cover and then they could accidentally fall out.

Well I think that is sad. As I said before, I would be willing to accept a price increase for GM. I read it from cover to cover, every article. It's great value for money and I would still consider it so if it was twice the price.

When I receive my copy of GM through the letterbox I rip off the cellophane then hold the mag, spine up and tip out all the dross contained within.
I generally give it all a quick scan to make sure there's nothing worthwhile then promptly deposit the lot in the recycling bin.
Oh.....and I don't do the scratch cards.
