Do you really need a glove?

Have played without, but prefer to use one for the big swings. Usually take mine off for anything inside 80 yds, although if I'm just out for a knock, sometimes play without taking it off at all. Just depends on what mood i'm in and whether I remember or not. Don't think it really matters - like a lot of things, whatever works for you.

I have always worn one.

I tried last year to go without, and got about as far as a hot weekend in April. When I launched my 4 iron down the sixth, I figured the experiment was over.

Only times I don't wear my glove are for putting and chip and runs.
Also don't wear it between shots, my pre-shot routine is to put my glove on while assessing the shot. Obviously if I duff one 10 yards that goes out the window!

Only wear one in the wet and occasionally if it's really hot and hands sweating. Other than that it doesn't make a scrap of difference providing your grips are OK.

Other advantages:
1. It saves all that faffing about putting it on taking it off....and some people really do wait until they have teed up their ball before doing this on every tee (part of the "pre shot routine" they tell me).
2. Stops you beeing tempted to look like a complete t*sser with it neatly tucked in the back pocket with the fingers hanging out.
3. It's the best known remedy for golfers tan.

Gloves, like belts are a total waste of time and money, its just another part of the " uniform " golf clubs want you to kick into..

:sbox:
Belts..............waste of money..........WWWWWHHHHHAAAAATTTTT!
I have to wear a belt..............................HAVE to.
Trousers or shorts have belt loops for a reason & to see them with no belt does my head in.
It may be an age thing......I don't know, but, if I ever turned up to play golf & discovered I'm not wearing a belt, I'd have to buy one, no matter how expensive!
Jeans with no belt only works if your a female with a good figure, on a fella it just NEVER works, no matter who they are.
Belts should be made compulsory. It's like wearing a suit, shirt buttoned up..........and no tie.
It just DOESN'T work!
It's like farting in a lift................................wrong on so many levels!

Going for a lie down now.

AND THEY WOULD STILL NEED A BELT !!! In my humble opinion.
They just finish things off nicely. It's a bit like putting alloys on your car, not vital I know, it just finishes things off nicely.
Call it decoration, not essential but it should be COMPULSORY!

Do you wear spatts (sp?) on your shoes also?

Ive been playing for 20 years and never worn a glove as I think golf is a game of feel and find a glove too restricting. Its said that if you get blisters on your hands you need a glove but if you do your simply gripping too hard!.

" Slime "dont tell me you wear suit to play golf in,thats taking club rules too far,get yourself a pair of braces, and a nice faldo jumper and you'll really look the part,in fact, they might make you captain.

Or even a flat cap..................no, no,.............I'm from Surrey don't you know .

One has a nice leather attache case in which one keeps ones' spare tees. My butler carries it for me whilst my balls are being cleaned by a team of poor people and my footman shoots anyone holding me up, that's what shotguns were designed for.........wasn't it?
