After all the rain of late my course has a temporary ban on electric trollies. So today I emptied my cart bag and put clubs in a lightweight carry bag. Got to the first tee and realised I'd left my glove hanging in the garage, drying out from all the rain!

I have to say that it didn't make a scrap of difference to my game and not once did I even think about it during the round.

Which leads me to say, "Do we really need a glove at all"?

I've not used a glove for nearly 6 months and i feel like I have a better feel for my shots, especially the chip and approach shots.

It might just be in the mind like but it works for me.

I do. Can't swing a club without one, end up holding on too hard otherwise. Hit a bucket at the range without a glove and you'll find out if you need one or not, my hands would be on fire!

havent used a glove for the past 3 years, even 300-400 balls at the range was fine, however, new MC grips and now wearing a glove which is certainly letting me grip lighter...........its about feel and its horses for courses

I wear one simply because I always have. I don't feel comfy without one and never feel right over the ball. I know its just a mental thing but I have to wear one. I have some old gloves for the range and they tend to be thick nasty things (compared to the R9 and Sci Flex I wear on the course) and they do the job. Trouble with the decent ones is that I wear them out too quickly if I use them for the range too

A very long time ago Fred Couples learnt from me (a cautious Scotsman) that you didn't need to keep spending money on golf gloves as you don't really need them. I do, however have a (very expensive) pair of Macwets for when it p1sses down.

I've never worn one in the 3 years I've been playing. I have tried wearing one but it didn't make me play any better (or worse).

And it was me who taught him to sand his grips instead of wasting money on new ones.PMSL

With modern grip technology I don't think there's a definite requirement to use a glove and when I pop down to the range from work at lunch time I don't bother. If it gives confidence by all means use one however there are a few tour pro's who don't bother so for me it's purely down to a case of personnal choice

Of course you need a glove.

Without one you just don't look like a Golfer.......

Hang on are we getting back to dress codes..??

I used to wear a torn, non tailored, blue denim one but the club wouldn't allow it .

Seriously though, haven't used one for 15 years or more and it makes no difference to me at all, I'm still crap!

Slime.
