Do you pick your comps?

For years I was extremely selective, picking comp's I wanted to win, get cut in or use to qualify for other events such as county stuff. Changed this year to playing anything at all which has been ok but plan to cut back a little next year to allow time to practice stuff and not use competitions to do this which is not best. Need time to work on stuff and not be under the gun EVERY single round. Some middle ground needs to be found here...

Don't do foresomes anymore as I only average a game every 2 weeks and usually politely turn down club representation as it doesn't motivate me anymore and would sooner give someone else the chance who would really appreciate it.

Got a mixed partner for the first time ever and really enjoyed this. New company and different formats and the chance to play under different circumstances a few times a year. Nice.

Fair play, you're the first to own up.

What do you lose by playing in it? £5 entry fee.? Pride?

It's more of a time issue, I try to mix playing in all of the weekend & midweek medels, scratch singles & Foursome knockouts, along with the fourball (H/c) knockout for a bit of fun. Then Family life and work take up he rest of my time, so don't see any fun or benefit playing a handicap singles k/o where the guy you are playing plays off high teens to mid 20's and they knock in round in a couple over par gross during the summer.

I really only aim to play medals, with the odd stableford thrown in.
I'm not a fan of matchplay, mainly because I like to play scratch golf, ie, me against the course in medal format.
I'm not overly interested in what anyone else has managed to do, in comp's if I get cut I may win a prize as a result, but that isn't my major motivation for entering a comp.
However, I do sometimes enter the matchplay comp's, they are a good way of meeting different members of the club, and in scratch league you get to visit other courses for free.

Basically, I just enjoy playing golf and trying to shoot as low as I can. In fact I'm not too bothered about competitions every week, I just like to play an enjoyable round with my mates sometimes.
