Do you have to book tee times ?

At The Warwickshire we have online & phone booking & it's a pain in the a***. In theory it reduces queues but since you can't book more than 2 weeks ahead, unless you get online by 7:35am on Saturday to book a fortnight in front you can't get a time before lunch on either course!

The other problem is that people want to avoid being teamed up with strangers so they just add random friends into their booking to fill up the 4 slots so you end up with huge numbers of 2-balls waiting for each other at every tee.

Have some mates who play up the road @ Leamington (pitch up & play) and I've never not been able to play when we want.

I think that is a problem with many courses that are run as commercial enterprises rather than members clubs. My club is also proprietory so will not turn away any income if they can help it, so times have to be booked - a pain in some ways but if it keeps the green fees lower then I can grudgingly accept it. Its the Scot in me that begrudges parting with more money than necessary so I won't pay the additional £200 on the green fee plus joining fee for the local 'members' clubs.

you can book or just rock up at my club. we have online as well which you can book up to 3 weeks in advance which is a life saver

Can’t think of anything worse than waiting 45 minutes on the first then waiting 5 minutes each shot because pace of play isn’t managed.

Much prefer booking in advance and joining in others groups if needed, saves on time and speeds up play (in theory)

I'll second that. I'd much rather know when I'm teeing off and can plan my day accordingly.

We only have to book for weekends. Other than that, just turn up see who's about and get out there.

We have a booking system, either on the phone, in the shop or now online. It depends when you want to play as to whether you have to book or not. Before 10am it's worth booking or you'll be waiting behind a queue on the 1st. After that you can normally just walk in and walk on.
To be honest we normally book 9.32 but if there's nobody on the tee at 9.15/9.20 then we go!!

We can just roll up and go out except when there is a comp on naturally but even then we can go off the 10th if the front of the field hasn't passed through. For me in terms of convenience it has to be worth a a few hundred quid of my membership especially in the summer where I can rock up and go straight out and be round in 3 hours and home before 9.

To be honest, we have a lot of different groups or swindles at weekends, and most have their own preferred sort of times and so you can either plan your tee time knowing when they'd have gone off or better still get involved. We've inherited 25+ new members from Laleham who play on a Saturday and Sunday and they've just found a slot behind one of the other greedies.

The thing with our club is that they are actually pretty switched on and so if you and your mates were a 3-4 ball on your own at a weekend and pitched up, any of these greedies would let you go off as a group rather than you waiting for 3-5 other lots to go off. Its about common sense and a bit of give and take at the end of the day.

HID works at Sand Martins which has a booking system (10 days in advance for members). I know no shows in comps with less than 24 hours notice (unless for something pretty major) is a two comp ban which I guess is a fair deterrent. However even if you fancied a late Saturday or Sunday round you'd still have to book. That's what puts me off joining a club like that. If I want to nip out for a game either midweek or weekend I want to know I can get on. A quick check of the website to see if there is a club match etc and chances are I'll off and running. A very big plus in my book

One of the reasons I joined RAGC was because there was no tee booking. It's great to have the flexibility and as Homer said will be especially useful in the summer.

It's great to know that I can get a game every Saturday without being tied to a tee time.

Golfers are more than capable of managing the tee themselves, as Homer said, it's just common sense.
