Do you avoid "inferior" players

there are no inferior players ,just the oik that swings the club.
i have no qualms about playing with lesser skilled players ,as we all started off rubbish .
we have a guy at my club who will say himself is absolutely pants at golf but he loves to play it .he is the most personable bloke i know and would rather play with him than a few members who think they are a little better than the rest of us mortals.

I used to play golf with a lovely guy. So polite and a really good bloke.
I used to hate it when we were on the green and it was his turn to putt.
"Go on Dave, it's your turn" we'd say.
"Oh is that okay, you don't mind?" came his reply every time.
Lovely bloke, but when he did that I felt like burying my putter in his skull.

Ive seen your putting Smiffy, I don't think it'd give him a problem!!

(I might just regret this post)

I am by no means a golf snob but in answer to the question then yes I do avoid playing with inferior players, I don't think that I am being unreasonable as I tend not to enjoy my golf if playing with higher handicap golfers so yes I avoid them. I used to play with a few mates one was a mid handicap player playing off 9 & the others were higher handicap players playing of between 11 -14 and it didn't bother me but once I started playing with a few other guys who I met at the club who were all playing between +3 to 4 the change was massive so now I tend to stick with these guys as the golf is alot more competitive and a whole lot more enjoyable.

We obviously play golf for different reasons, but it's your life I suppose.

I play to enjoy it & most important try to improve, why do you play ?

Fresh air, exercise, companionship, a laugh, kills half a day for a retired man, and a drink at the 19th tee. Please don't think I was attempting to deride you, because I wasn't. My point was that we just play for different reasons.

Think a lot of people here have voiced my opinion - as long as they are good people who cares how good they are.

If they're better than me, I try to learn as much from them as I can.

If they're not as good as me, I just try to enjoy the game.

I'd play with anyone, rolled up today and played with one member off 15, his guest off 28 and I'm off 20. I'd never not play with someone because of their handicap or skill. There's plenty of better reasons to avoid someone besides there handicap or skill level. Attitude and etiquette being 2..

Played today with 3 ladies - all high 20's handicap-wise. All very good company and we had a great time even if the golf wasn't so great at times. One said to me "here we go gradually working our way to your tee shot - more frustrating for you than us" and I replied "not a bit of it - no rush" which I meant. Booked a tee slot for Thursday and a 36 handicapper was in the shop so asked her did she want to join us so she is.

It goes the other way for me and high handicappers reluctant to play with me - until they do and realise I'm not an ogre and they won't feel intimidated or inadequate. Best compliment I ever get paid is when some of the older, highest handicappers seek me out for a game.

There are a couple of high handicappers I try to avoid playing with but its more down to the fact they are deadly slow rather than their ability. One in particular you are guaranteed a 4.5 hour 3 ball as he is so slow. Lovely bloke but I just can not tolerate that.

Handicap is irrelevant truth be told.

I will normally not worry about the standard of my playing partners, although in medals I prefer to play with someone I know will not be spending ages looking for balls.

This would kinda be my way of thinking also , I play a lot of society golf and with all levels of golfers & enjoy it a lot , normal comps I stick my name down & im not over fussy who puts their names down with me , medals are off our blues so I prefer playing with players of a decent standard ..
I also avoid some low-mid handicappers and its not for ability reasons

My regular playing partners for many years were a father & son off 20 & 24 .. always enjoyed the game

As a complete beginner i was rather apprehensive about joining my local club because I am indeed a newbie and no one will want to play. However my mind has been put to rest some what and as soon as the weather sorts its self out its time to get out there!

I don't knowingly avoid, no. I'll normally play comes with people I know, or I'll sign up and people I know will join. As long as people have a relative understanding of the rules, have good etiquette and are just chatty enough...then it is fine!
