Do we want him back?

I don't mind seeing every shot Tiger hits, but I don't want to see him thinking about the shot for a minutre before he hits it, or the in depth analysis following every shot, unless it's a truly great shot or an absolute stinker.

In other words; fine to show all his shots but don't linger on him too much when he's not playing said shots.

I watch it on sky+ so I pause it then pop out for a ciggy and make a cuppa..... then fast forward thru all the other players shots

Just my opinion; it depends how you categorise the GOAT, I suppose. If it's purely a numbers game then if he hits 19 he'll be there but a bit more to it than that for me.

Anyway, this is a tired old argument.... Lets wait until if/when he gets past Jack's number!

By your argument getting past 19 makes no difference, so there's no need to wait. I'm curious what other criteria he has to meet t be the GOAT?

If Tiger couldn't putt he would be a 10 handicapper. He's also the luckiest golfer on the planet.

Agree 100, he owes a huge amount to the galleries that follow him, finding his balls and trampling down long grass where other players have to play 3 off the tee etc.
A bit of personality wouldn't go amiss either.

Surely all the other players that follow him benefit from this also? I'm not sure too many spectators find balls that have vanished for him. I guess he's just marmite and those that don't like him will try n use any excuse. Gotta say it sounds bitter, like people calling UTD lucky, when they're simply better. He also played well to earn these galleries because like you've said, they don't follow him for his personality, but his ability.

Do we want the best player of our generation, maybe all time, back playing golf at the top of his game? Is that really a question that needs answering?

Do we want him on constant TV coverage when he's not playing well? No, but I think we're gonna have to get used to it

It doesn't make no difference. But, in my opinion, that in itself won't be enough.

It's hard to explain without being branded a "tiger hater", which I'm not; I actually quite like him. However, the guy who is currently the GOAT is a hard act to follow. As well as his collection of majors he embodies all that is good in the sport and has done for as long as I can remember. Tiger gets a bad press but is really (personal life excluded) just a little rough around the edges. Trouble is... How do you live up to Jack?

Really? You think Tiger is the only one who has his ball found by the gallery and benefits from trampled down grass? That has to be the most absurd thing I've ever read.

They don't benefit from galleries that are no longer there to find their balls. What about the famous bouldergate incident in the desert. The rest of the field didn't have the luxury of loads of guys moving a 'loose impediment' Or the ball on the clubhouse roof affair, that would have been out of bounds for anyone else?
If he was a bit more gracious maybe he wouldn't have so many detractors.

Thats a fair comment, but for me in hundreds of years, it'll be the numbers remembered. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say beating the record is a gimme for woods. 5 years ago it seemed impossible for him to fail. But if he sets all the records then I think most would find it hard to argue that he's the greatest (maybe best of all time sounds more relevant as sound less all encompassing).

Don't forget all the 2nd and 3rd places as well..
Plus the lack of spitting......

It's not a question until he matches or breaks Jack's record.

Really? I'd say he polarises opinion in the Media. Guys like Mark Roe and Robert Lee go way over the top with their lavish praise of Tiger and this tends to alienate viewers. So maybe even "good press" can actually work against Tiger.

This just shows how dividing he still is, but your clearly someone who doesn't like him. I doubt highly that the rules are changed just for him. If you truly think he only wins due to help and luck then you are a screw loose. In my humble opinion.

Definitely. I've never really understood the fuss about Arnie but I'm not old enough to remember him playing. Same will happen with jack; in the fullness of time only the number will be important.

Anyway, Valentino Rossi is the real GOAT! ;)

I'm sure if anyone else would have thought to get it moved, they could have got it moved or are all 20000 people just standing in the same place watching Tiger?

I'm gobsmacked that you believe this.

2nd/3rd irrelevant to me. Win is a win and all that counts. Like I said, I'm basing it on records not his etiquette or image. But like you said if he were to beat it then I'm sure they'll be plenty of people still detracting from him. Like when he won all four in a row and it got named a "tiger slam" because people were all saying it doesn't count as not in same year.

Good to have him back with his A game again, like it or not the man has a presence and aura about him that people want to be a part of. I don't mind the extra footage afforded to him. After all he is imo the greatest player ever so we should appreciate him as in another 4 or 5 years he'll be on the wane.

I just don't believe Jack had so much competition, he only ever played against (maybe) 5 people and as a result they ended up sharing a lot of honours between them.

Out of interest who has won the most majors in the past 14yrs other than tiger?
