So I had my first proper winter round yesterday after 3 weeks over here in Switzerland.

First time playing since the winter rules came in. Course was a bit soggy in places and the Fog was a bit daunting.

What i loved was, how the club sliced through the turf alot easier than the summer when it can bounce out of the hard fairway.

Seen quite a few threads on the winter conditions, the ability to take a nice divot is a plus for me.

The frost might put an end to it though

i find the softer feel shots can be a bit tricky with the softer ground.

also from 100 yards in catching them fat can be the norm, you have to adapt to it.

Maybe its cos I grew up playing golf in County Antrim where it rains almost every day, so was used to playing on soft fairways.

I played the oxfordshire in July which also had very soft fairways and loved it.

I tend to struggle most on the Rock hard fairways. Especially chipping!

Even in summer you should be able to take a divot. Are you normally a sweeper?

I will admit I do love golf at this time of year. 5yrds of screw back on the green is a very fulfilling thing to see, even if it does bring you back off the front of the green

Lump - I take divots in the summer, but they are the kind that are hard to find and could go without replacing.

I was pulling up little 2x4 inch squares of turf yesterday. Maybe I just missed golf too much and was happy with being out there lol!!

My divots which are normally on the large size are currently enormous:eek: Managed to put one into my partners bag on the fly the other day whilst playing with PN Wokingham and Bratty.:)

Hi mate. Never took a divot in my life. Not without hitting it fat. I love playing winter gollf. Taking 2 extra clubs and still b shoryt.I play off 11 sometimes. I will add my details sometime

Doing some nice Turfing on the fairways at the moment. They're not too wet or soft - had a total of 4mm of rain last week - so the irons a cutting through very nicely!

We go onto mats at Royal Aberdeen on the 1st of December… Never tried it myself, but can't see it being an issue as I am normally in the rough anyway! :o
