Was wondering if I could tap into the knowledge of the forum and discuss a problem I have had on my last couple of rounds.

It involves a large slice off the tee with my woods and slightly pulling my irons - it's pretty disastrous with my wedges as I'm pin high but so far left.

My friend who is a low handicapper mentioned that I am cutting across myself a lot. I've always struggled with a slice, do you think I will have to re-engineer my swing to push out more?

It's either temporary or a bit ingrained.

If it's ingrained you need to get down the range and sort it out....otherwise it could get worse.

3-ball drills, in-the-slot drills, anything that gets you pushing the ball deliberately should help.

Tonight, I'm going down the range with a car washing sponge and sticking it behind the ball and outside the line to do just these drills myself.

It's a variation on the drill I did in 1996, except that was with a grip + 2 inches of (broken) shaft in the ground....tough to do that on range mats.

I'm guessing it's one of yours too? :)

The first drill I tried with the club end in the ground was actually taking the clubhead outside on the way back and inside on the way down.....all very well.....but even 13 years later, I still move my hands/arms away from my chest at the start of the backswing.....so much for ingraining bad habits though ill-conceived drills.

It sounds like you should check your alignment first.

It's fairly common for players to align too far right then 'cut across themselves' with their swing, pulling it left or slicing it with an over-the-top swing path.

My divots do that too, which could be casting from the top, could be alignment (but not in my case), but for me, mostly it is because I look up early, and move off the shot. If I kept my head behind the ball, it would stop.
