I've been replacing divots for 57 years & still don't know whether it's just to make the fairways look tidier or whether some actually grow back. I would guess they never grow back and the birds certainly remove many of them. Is there any concrete evidence one way or the other?

Would you buy turf to lay a lawn they are just bigger divots :D obviously it would depend on how much of the grass root you took with the divot and in the height of summer they dont do so well.

If I remember rightly, in some parts of Asia you are specifically told to not replace divots as they dry out before they can re-root.
Don't have that problem here though!

Unlikely to regrow for the next 4 months as too cold even for root growth. But they'll certainly knit into place if done with care - as long as Rooks don't flip them!

The Aussie/Kiwi concept of buckets of sand (and seed) hooked onto the 'trundler' (trolley) is really good for keeping the playing surface in good (flat) condition, even in Winter.

Ours would if the rooks didn't keep turning them over.
same here. I did hear someone say that using an old tee peg to hold it in place can be effective to stop the rooks flipping them over. Anyone else heard such a thing?
