I thought I'd share my experiences with Direct Golf Farnborough to maybe help others visiting the store in the near future.
I've been there 3 times since moving to Woking. I'd never really been to a Direct Golf shop as where I used to live, we had 3 American golf stores within 10 miles.
I bought a pair of Adidas shoes there in early Sept on my first visit, since I had a £10 off voucher. Upon selecting my shoes, I was told the voucher couldn't be used on the pair I chose as they were already on offer. Nowhere did it say this on the voucher, nor the promotion. I chose a second pair (more expensive by £10) which were in the SAME OFFER; these were fine to buy with the voucher.
I lost 3 studs on said shoes after my first wearing of them on the course. A little research online told me that this had been a bit of a problem for some people. I spoke to a pro who also said he'd heard bad things about studs falling out. Those people online had successfully exchanged / refunded the shoes. I went back to the store on my 2nd visit to be told 'tough'; it wasn't their fault, so they can't do anything.
I went down the 'unfit for purpose' route, to which they fitted 3 new studs, blamed me for not tightening them (which I had done, by the way) and said come back if it happens again. I told them I'd be hard pushed to come back every time I needed a new stud because they fell out. They said they'd cross that bridge when we came to it. So I'm waiting for my next round or golf and the inevitable stud loss to see what happens.
My 3rd visit came last week. After deciding to treat myself to a new wood, I received a text message from Direct Golf saying '20% off absolutely everything'. So I popped down after work to see what was in my price range. I showed them the text, and then said I'd like to try the £99 Mizuno wood, which would come down to £79 in the offer.
I was told that, because it was already 'on sale', it wasn't in the 20% off deal. Another member of staff was called over to verify, and he too said the Mizuno range wasn't in the sale as they were already reduced; even though the text message said "absolutely everything". I decided that I'd heard this before and left the store - to open up an email when I got home promoting the 20% off everything offer, with, guess what? The Mizuno wood at £79.
It seems that the staff aren't quite kept up to date with offers and sales, which is what brought me into the store on 2 occasions. The way they made me feel like it was MY fault for having studs fall out of brand new shoes was terrible. It was the same 2 members of staff on all 3 occasions, so could just be two bad apples rather than a rotten tree. However, as my only experience with Direct Golf, I shan't be going there again. The customer service from American Golf Camberley is ten times better.
