Dilemma

Have you tried the JPX 825 Pro?

I switched to these at the start of this year and they are so much easier to hit than my old MP62.

And i would guess somewhere between the MP54 and EZ.

Nah haven't tried them, think they had them in so I may give them a try before the fitting.

Another option is to go for the 54's 7-PW and the JPX's 4-6 that way you'll get the forgiveness in the longer irons.

Good idea but the jpx are a gunmetal colour and the 54's are chrome and I completely different looking club, I do to think I could get away with 2 sets of completely different looking clubs in my bag.

Mark,

For a 20 h/c I have never seen anyone who so rarely tops, hooks or slices his irons. You have the game for better irons so go with what you want, you'll relish the challenge. Then learn how to drive, chip and putt. Same as me. :)

Nowt wrong with my putting, 24 putts is good.......... Shame that was the front 9! :)

What about the 825 pro's there chrome and wouldn't look out of place.

Looking at the specs on the Mizuno site I wouldn't consider the short irons have jacked lofts, PW 46*, 9 iron 42* and 8 iron 38* I'd class that as "standard lofts" for a club.

First set of specialist wedges I bought were Ram Tom Watson's at 50* PW, 55* SW, 60* LW. I'm still playing modern sets where the PW weighs in at 48*, so a 46* PW, especially one bent to 44* is most definitely jacked. It's that far jacked it's actually a 9 iron, particularly as shaft lengths have grown at the same time. Different strokes and all that. ;)

Aye but thats back in the day of hickory shafts! haha :)

Ended up sticking with the MP 54's

The fitting through up a surprise, I thought my swing speed with a 6 iron would be around 75-80 mph but with Mizuno DNA fitting it was averaging around 87 mph. It also showed I'm pretty aggressive on the downswing and quite handsy which I knew anyway.

It suggest the Dynamic gold in stiff and the Kbs tour in stiff, tried the Dynamic gold first and although it felt nice I was still getting too much spin, around the 6100rpm mark with a launch angle of 26*

Moved onto the Kbs and straight away I noticed the difference without even looking at the numbers, the spin rate dropped down to 5800 and the launch angle down to 23* still a little on the high side but that's because I'm pretty handsy through the ball. The carry also went up to 148 yards (well below forum distances) but that's with stone cold range balls so I got told you can add around 10% on top of that.

Also got them 2* upright as the toe was digging in and causing the clubface to push open at impact and I was surprised what a difference it made and turned my pushed shots straight or into a slight draw.

So all in all I was really happy with the fitting and should have some nice shiny new clubs within the next 10 days, just in time for all the snow I bet!

It's true. Mizuno are doing a "cash back" offer on custom fit irons purchased between set dates if you are not completely satisfied!

Really? First I've heard and must be some clause in it as they can't really sell the clubs after you have used them for 6 weeks.

got a link for the T's and C's? would be the only manufacturer I've ever heard of doing that. Wonder what the dates are?

I had the same issue. The old JPX irons should have been suited to me but I didn't like the off set at address. I opted for the MP 59s a lower handicappers club but they are great. The way I look at it, why spend hundreds on clubs that you may grow out of. You can miss hit a forgiving iron in any event. Getting the loft, lie, shaft length and type, and grip size right are the biggest gainers.

I am hunting the internet now....I know I have seen the leaflets at my local driving range advertising it. It is a Mizuno offer...

You won't go wrong with the MP54s. They aren't too dissimilar to the JPX 800 Pros I had before them. The main difference is at the shorter end, as the "cavity" disappears.

Superb club though...I love mine to pieces!
