Dilemma - Use or sell my new (in the wrapper) Ping i15 driver

How much better would you say the i15 is over the G10? I'm hammering my G10 at the moment but any old excuse for an upgrade...

Bit too early to say yet. I've only used it for two rounds and was a bit knackered having played 4 rounds in 3 days prior to that. The good ones I hit were better than my good ones with the G10 and the equipment at Ping showed I was getting about 15 yards more carry with the i15. I've noticed that my good drives with it have a nice draw on them which is good. I'm confident it will perform better than the G10 but a few more knocks with it will confirm. I am getting on a lot better with it already than I ever was with the G15.

Bit the bullet and took the i15 out for a smash... it wasn't pretty. Low hook on 1 and 2, straight as an arrow 290yds up the 4th whilst trying for a fade, lost a ball on the 5th when I was trying to hook/draw it round the dogleg but it went dead straight and was still on the rise over the top of the oak trees 240yds away, 285yd running draw up the 6th, tried to hit a fade down the 8th and it went dead straight left into the trees, blocked 3 to the right on the 9th, 3 hooks on the 10th and then 3 running draws down the 17th and 18th. GPS'd the ones on the 18th at 270, 281 and 292yds - all in all it looked more like a red arrows display team than a good driving performance.

So much for custom fitting.

Will probably keep it in the bag for a few weeks and see if I can find a swing that works with it... I had one at the fitting

I could hit my Titleist at the fitting too.

I still think drivers are a bit trial and error. I am happy with my c/f irons, but my driver? No. I think my swing is too varied. Also, I would prefer forgiveness to distance, and I think they concentrate too much on length.

Echo a few of the comments from DCB,Craw,Steve etc and auction it to the Sick Kids or similar, my boy spent 6 weeks at Edinburgh who would welcome anything you could give from a raffle as you got it for nowt and had a good day in the bargain. Hard neck of a post to be honest mate so do the decent thing ;)

About the same as your other driver then :D :D :D

Smiffy wouldn't get a 9 degree off the deck with his swing speed.

Just for your information Murph, a bit of digging around on the 'net came up with this.....
http://www.patryangolf.com/2006/pat_ryan..._golf_facts.htm

If it is correct, then my swing speed (as measured by Ping) is slightly higher than average for a male golfer. Not by much, but just above it at 89mph. My spin rate and launch angles were "perfect" according to the fitter (who is an expert, not a duffer with a hang up over Ping clubs) and the new driver gave me 15 yards (on average) more carry than my old one.
Yes....I bit
;)

It happens when the same people get picked for everything on GM.

I haven't got a clue what you're talking about mate, I've not been picked for anything else by GM, I do however make sure that I get out to forum meets and involve myself within the forum community.

With regards to the club, I'm going to keep it for the moment seeing as I've now test driven it... it might have been free but it's mine and I'll feel free to do with it whatever I want to... might even snap it just to shut up the 'holier than thou' posters who seem to have materialised on the thread.

Don't do that mate.
I'll work on my swingspeed and get it so that I can use a stiff shafted club with 9.5 degrees of loft.
You never know, I might knock 3 off my handicap and become a real golfer

If thats aimed at me and a few others then you're bang out of order. Post frequently and always speak my mind but i'm not holier than thou as you said. Posted in good faith regarding a club you got for nothing from the forum and asked what it would be worth. Get a grip.

Totally agree with Alec, Yes James its your club and you can do with it as you please but to ask how much its worth so you can flog it was a bit cheeky,we were just making a point that if you didn't want it give it to charity thats not being holier than now as you put it just some causes who have helped forum members.

As you've used it hope you enjoy it i've got one and love it.
