Hi all,

I currently play with a set of much loved yet old (circa 1992) Mizuno tcd irons. On a good day I can just break 100 so I'm far worse than average , playing perhaps once every 4 weeks or so, although I ADORE the game and am hooked (excuse the pun) big-time on it.

The irons I know, aren't exactly leading-edge technology in this day and age, and I know that there are a million sets that would give me a helping-hand with my game, but finances and all that malarkey come into it (and the fact I love how mine look). I am debating whether to spend some cash on a new set of grips (thinking of the Golf Pride New Decade Midsize in Red or Blue) in the hope that mentally, this will help me concentrate on practising more and playing a little better. Am I deluding myself or do you think that shiny new kit (in whatever form that takes), helps mentally with your game?

All responses gratefully received.

Cheers,
Ian

n.b. Current grips are about 2 years old.

If your current grips are two years old they probably need changing anyway, depending on how often you scrub them. Go for it, it can't do any harm, and if it makes you happy, you will probably play better.

I would say it is probably a good thing to do. It'll give your clubs a new lease and will feel better in the hand which in turn will inspire confidence. BTW if you are going to the open day at RA give me a shout as I'll be around on Sunday about 2 ish (in the medal in the morning)

I'm in the limited money corner, like yourself. And I'd like loads of new kit as well.

But like I mentioned elsewhere, the potential for buyers remorse worries me.

I've got so many more important things to spend my funds on, though, no matter how frustrating it sounds, that I'd be inclined to get your existing clubs back up to scratch
