Different shaft types?

For as long as I've been playing I've really struggled to hit my driver straight... Sometimes left and sometimes right, there's just no consistency.

I was watching a youtube video the other day and it suggested that if you have different shaft flex in your drivers than your irons (my driver is considerably more flexible than my irons) then you're going to have a bad time when you come to hit your driver. Is this really the case?
 
I like dented worn out ones, like the one in my 5 wood after I hit the club I was using as an alignment aid when it popped up in the air by accident today!

If it is considerably different in flex, that could be a problem, but if they have different labels but play similar, not so much of a problem. If the driver is very flexible, you probably lose a lot of accuracy and control with it.
