Diego

Sad that he died quite young, although not altogether unexpected. Bit before my time so I've only seen him in highlight form really, but he seems to have played as if he just really loved the game.

Was before my time so mai ly the highlight reel for me.

Re the cheat remarks. Was he really any worse than what we see today? They all dive now. That's just as bad. His handball wasn't even as bad as Theirrys.....
Nope. Would anyone really expect an English player to ask for his goal to be chalked off in the World Cup 1/4 final? hand of god comment is genius

Agreed. Don't really think it's necessary - we all know he scored from a handball against England, and now he's dead, I don't really think he needs to be hammered and called a cheat another time.

I wouldn’t say I’d defend him. I mean a hand ball where you miss control it is one thing. He did punch the ball, but if officials Think he could out jump a keeper with probably a fts reach on him, that’s their mistake.
I just think that cheating with intent isn’t something he started and it’s certainly worse now.

Some of his goals for Napoli are a joy to watch. Plenty on You Tube.

The amount of footballers in history that would have owned up to a world cup goal being hand ball are few and far between.

No they wouldn't but if you were a massive England football fan you, like me, would always feel hard done by a clear handball costing a World Cup semi final place with a handball that was apparently "the hand of God" and not by a cheating little Argentinian!

Or is God really a cheating Argentinian?

If he was before your time then you will not have the mental scars that come with that game or tournament. England had a genuinely good team, had a real chance of winning. It doesn't matter what others have done before or since, that hurt. Ask an Irishman, who saw the game, in 30 years what they think of Henry and the wounds will still be there.

Back to the player. Aspects of his game were sublime. At a time when players got kicked all over, particularly in Italy, his dribbling was something else. The other sides of him, on and off the pitch, are for another time really.
